I can't say whether the updates did it, but, curiously to me, most of my apps were updated (i.e. downloaded and reinstalled) after the new firmware even though they were already in their latest versions. I don't know why this happened or if it helped solve the problem, but after doing the updates and restarting the TV once more (I had already restarted several times) the missing functions came back.

Today I decided it was time to update to Android 12. Now I deeply regret my decision. All TV functions (picture mode, sound output, channel selection etc) stopped working. Only apps work. I can't watch watch broadcast TV either. No Freeview, no Freesat. Any attempt to use these functions and all I get is either no response at all or a second or two of dark screen and back to Home.

Has anyone seen this behaviour? I'm desperately trying to avoid resetting the TV and lose my configuration, end up in a worse place, or both.

Thanks.

Yeah other people have been experiencing the same issues you have.

Others have reported either doing a Restart (hold power button down for couple of seconds and select Restart,

or a full power cycle. Switch off TV, unplug wait a couple of minutes then power up.

Failing that then a factory reset might be your last option.

Make note of all your 'configurations' and app usernames and passwords before.

Seems like a basic thing for Sony to get wrong. 😞 Out of interest, is it only with the X90J? I thought I'd done my research but obviously not well enough.

I take it we are talking about the update to v6.8022, if so you can see in the pages here what people are experiencing after updating.

Sony updates have been a bit problematic of late.

Have you tried a power cycle and or a factory reset, and if so did you get functionality back?

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're facing after the Android 12 update on your X90J. You're definitely not alone several users have reported similar functionality problems after recent firmware updates. Before doing a full factory reset, you might want to try these steps:

Clear the cache from the TV's storage settings—sometimes a simple cache clear can restore functionality.

Unplug the TV for 2-3 minutes and plug it back in—this can sometimes force a system refresh.

Check for any additional system or app updates—Sony sometimes rolls out quick patches after major updates.

If available, try resetting only the TV settings (not a full factory reset) to retain your app data.

Hopefully, Sony releases a fix soon. If these don’t help, contacting Sony support with your update version may also help escalate the issue.

It'll stop working again. This issue is intermittent it will start again sometime after you turn your TV to standby mode.

A factory reset will not fix this issue either (I tried) - Rebooting, or turning off your TV will "fix" it again but these issues won't go away permanently until Sony release a fix.

There is only 3 app updates available on the appstore, NowTV, Disney Plus and TV Set-Up. I highly doubt any of those are the issue however I just updated them.

I suspect this is an issue that is being caused when the TV enters it's lowest power state after being in Stand-By for X amount of time. A similar issue was caused by a previous update, whereby the TV wouldn't switch on and would reboot itself. That was fixed but I guess has caused another issue with Settings.

the amount of things that have gone wrong for me after this update is becoming really upsetting. after three years of everything mostly being great, this tv is now a massive cause of stress.

selecting an hdmi input shows a blank screen or flashes the screen black for a second then goes back to where you were

screen settings (not picture settings) can’t be selected for Apps, only inputs or digital

pressing the settings button on the remote brings up the quick settings along the bottom of the screen but with all the changeable options missing

apps on external storage get moved to the end of the Your apps slider on the For you page on the Home Screen no matter how many times you put them back to the left

Basic TV app (not YouView) shows black screen

Live tab goes missing from Home Screen

BRAVIA Notifications keep re-appearing even after being deleted

sometimes a reboot (long press power button > restart) gets the HDMI inputs working normally, sometimes a power cycle briefly solves other problems.

i did do a factory reset after the new update introduced these faults, and everything was fine … until it updated again. I assume a factory reset uses an older system image onboard, I didn’t check the version numbers.

Help > Status & Diagnostics > Self diagnostics says everything is fine, which it clearly isn’t.

Honestly, this is exasperating! This has been going on for two months now, Sony must know about it!
