SONY K43S3 Subtitles and Teletext.

I've just bought the above model TV. The spec. says it has teletext, and the software update this month even mentions that it improves teletext (v6120600301),. There's a teletext button on the remote(s) but it doesn't work.

Can anyone confirm if it has teletext? (Or have Sony specs not been updated in 5 years?)

Also, everytime I change channels I have to re-enable subtitles. Is this normal or is it faulty.

In order for subtitles to display continuously you need to set up subtitles through the Settings menu.

Settings> System> Accessibility> Subtitle Settings here you can set up subtitle settings for Broadcast TV

and also for Streaming and other content.

(as your TV is a different model to mine the Settings menu may be slightly different)

Teletext, I would guess your TV does not have the teletext function in the UK.

In 2019 the BBC announced it was going to discontinue its text service, TV manufacturers then decided to not include the necessary decoder in newer models of their TVs.

Due to the pandemic and public opinion the BBC decided to postpone its closure and have kept it going.

TV manufacturers as far as I am aware have still not decided to include the decoder.

Pre-2020 TVs can still get the text service but post 2020 TVs can't, for example my older Sonys a 2012 and 2019 models do but my newer 2022 model does not.

It's a pain.

Thanks for that, it's much as I figured.

I could use the BBC NEWS app (which gives me the same as teletext), but
the TV doesn't show it in the Apps list so I can't download it.
