Z1 broken screen repair cost

I broke my z1 screen. Now the local Sony dealers asked me about 400$ !! Only to repair the screen. It cost more than half the price of a new z1! Is that the average price to fix it ?

*note: I can see with the screen but I can't use it

You could try eBay and repair it yourself if you feel up to it - But as the screen and digitizer are one piece then you will have to replace all

UK eBay has them for between £55 GBP and £79GBP thats around 92 to 131 USD

Possibly not - To make sure that any repairs done by yourself or any other person would need to have a pressure test carried out where as a repair done at a service center would have a pressure test done as part of the repair

It's difficult to repalce a LCD screen. You can see a teardown video here and you will know how difficult it is.

You should remove the back cover, the back cover frame, battery, mother board and loudspeaker, then can remove the screen as this video.

On the process of tearing down, all of the adhesive stickers are can't use any more, you need the new ones to replace to insure the waterproof like what use in this video.

That's why it's expensive to cost. And it will be best that if you can buy a LCD screen yourself and take it to the repair service to replace.

I guess it depends of the market. I replaced broken screen through official Sony SC for 22% of initial retail price of the phone. Now it is about 50%, because retail price dropped over a half.
