I want to add onto this. After the Android 9.0 Pie update, the setting is no longer present, it seems to have been removed, so we can no longer manage system icons.

Which is a shame since I turned off the BT icon on Oreo, but I can no longer turn it back on with Pie unless I factory reset my phone. There's the System UI tuner shortcut which I could use, but the toggles there seems independant from how Sony implemented the feature before, so turning them on/off doesn't bring back the BT icon for me.

Hi @Yahiroz;

In Android 9 (Pie) the bluetooth icon in status bar only appears when there is an actual active bluetooth connection and not when the bluetooth function is turned on as it was on Android 8, so I suppose it has nothing to do with your previous configuration.

I have Bluetooth on all the time, mostly due to having a Wear OS watch, so there is always an active connection. Even sending/receiving files I do not get the BT icon any more.

Apologies, you were right, I just tested it with the DS4 controller and the BT icon does appear. So I guess I'm not having any issues then.

Still, the manage icons setting has now been removed meaning the only way to hide system icons is creating a shortcut to the system UI tuner.

Hello everyone, sorry for the late reply!

The option to remove icons in the status bar has been removed in Android 9.0 Pie.

I hope that answers why you guys aren't able to find the option for it after updating!

I too have a smart watch connected and it will show up as an active connection. Always.

True you can have multiple connections (media) - even adjust the number in developer settings.
