Xz2 software update keeps failing

Every time my new xz2 attempts to download its software update it fails and then a notice pops asking to close the app. Can't seem to switch off the update to ignore it and phone won't complete the update so it's stuck in limbo. Any ideas?

I would try to wipe the cache of the Updater first:

Phone settings --> Apps --> Press on the 3 dots and select System Processes --> Update Service --> Storage --> Erase Cache and Data.

Then reboot and try again.

If this doesn't help try using Xperia PC Companion to update the phone.

I don't have that sequence of actions. I get this screen then it shows and "app has crashed. Restarts app?" window. Restarting app just causes the same result over and over.

You don't need to open the Software Update App. Just open the general phone settings and do as described before.
