Sony WH-1000XM3 voice control

Hello!

I’ve bought the wh-1000-XM3 headphones but don’t want to use voice control. I have switched off voice dial on my phone (iPhone 7) but headphones can still activate my phone when locked and make calls. How can I switch voice control off?

Hi Essedoubleu,

That's weird. Have you tried to disable Siri control when your phone is locked? I've found the instructions to activate the Voice control in this User manual: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wh1000xm3/v1/en/contents/TP0001703074.html. You can follow the same steps and disable (Siri When Locked).

Sadly this doesn’t work I’ve turned off all Siri features and it still activates voice control. Very annoying.

Sadly the only way to stop it is to remove the playback setting on the headphones, so it happens because when you want one of them to be able to skip a song etc one of the settings is about voice control. So the only way to stop it is to choose another function or turn the functions off completely! Pretty lame to have to lose those functions but better than calling random people.

Did you ever manage to fix this problem?

I have just purchased and started using these headphones and have the same issue. I’ve totally turned Siri off and still voice dialling is activated and calls totally random people! So annoying! I can’t use these headphones if this isn’t fixed.

No sadly the only way to turn it off is to turn playback controls off your headphones which is crap cause you can’t use any of the features.

That is so so crap though! I’m calling all sorts of random people. I can’t see why more have this issue, there is little info about it online.

Does anyone know how to turn all the playback controls off?

EDIT: You can turn off voice controls by updating your headphones through the app.

Hi!

Has anybody found a solution to this? I am having this problem and it is incredibly annoying.

I cant use the headphones because if I say a word or somebody around me says anything, what I am listening to stops, and I am all of the sudden calling somebody.

This really sucks.

I’ve been having the same problem. It makes the headphones a total liability as they will often ring random people whilst I have them momentarily removed and am talking at work, so I don’t even know it’s happening and any of my professional contacts could suddenly be unwittingly listening into my conversation! Terrible design Sony.

This appears to be "Speak-to-Chat". Annoying because it pauses the music every time you cough, or the person next to you makes a noise.

To turn off you simply have to:
1) Download the Sony MX1000 app
2) Wade through the many things it wants you to approve or set up (just refuse permission or click "later" for everything)
3) Select the "SOUND" menu tab in the middle of the screen
4) Toggle off the Speak-to-Chat function.

Works.
