Try clean the Optical Lens with a soft small brusch... Or with a Cleaning Disk (without liquid)...

Thank you for your advice, I have tried this and so far have not found a solution. I much appreciate your help.

I have since ordered a USB optical drive, which also does not play discs. This I find very strange as when I look in device manager at properties on both, it shows that they are working properly? Maybe it is something on my laptop that needs changing?

Also, I am using Avast security, maybe there is something in the settings that is denying access? Just a thought.
