Netflix 18:9 content not adapting to screen properly

Hi,

I just bought an Xperia 5 and I'm really liking it so far.

I notice though than when I'm playing a show or a movie shot in 18:9 on Netflix, blacks bars are showing up at the top and at the bottom of the screen. This is quite disturbing as it makes the video look smaller than it can be.

On other apps like YouTube, 18:9 content fill the screen as it's supposed to.

Can Sony do something about that ?

Thanks

Can you not use pinch to zoom...if not then no, it's up to netflix to add a zoom button, but I would guess 2:1 should fill the screen top and bottom and have bars left and right if correct.

It's a stupid resolution anyway and another marketing blurb so people think it's close to 16:9 just to market mobiles mostly.

It's actually 2:1

If I pinch to zoom the content takes the entire screen, and therefore is cropped at top and bottom.....

Are you sure the movie you are watching is natively 18:9?

I tried with two different shows : The Hookup Plan and Sex Education

Just looked at them, the bars are meant to be there.

checked them out on my 4K tv too, slight bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Either pinch to zoom, and live with the micro zoom, or get in touch with the creators and query why in this day and age, they use 2:1 format for widescreen programming.

It even has bars on an 18:9 screen phone, albeit they are small.
