Bravia 8 stuttering since Firmware 114.602.030.1 update

I have been using my Bravia 8 65" for over a year on the same settings and it has been perfect. However a couple of weeks ago it updated to the firmware with the new EPG without channel logos.

Since then the image on quite often starts to stutter. This can be seen on OTA transmissions through the antenna and on inputs.

When using the antenna it will often begin to get jerky/stutter and I can change channel and change back again and it will be fine for a while but sometimes comes back again.

I have checked all my image settings and they have not changed.

It would appear this new version of firmware has broken things and many people on AVS forum, Reddit & Facebook are reporting similar issues.

I have had an email mail from Sony to tell me to be patient as they are still investigating it. Hope they come up with a patch soon....

I can provide some names of programmes I've noticed it occurring on in case it helps anyone capture video.

- ITV Regional news

- A House Through Time (as per my video)

- The Chase

I thought it was just terrestrial (Freeview) that was affected but I'm sure I've seen it also on demand channels.

Disappointingly I watched Formula 1 on Now TV last weekend and it's meant to be UHD (4K). On my previous LG it was smooth but on this Sony it was clearly at a lower frame rate and was noticeably jerky.

Like others, I'm regretting buying this TV. I'm not convinced the picture is that much better than my previous LG and the compromises in usability (terrible user interface, stuttering picture) are totally unacceptable.

I think I'm logging an issue with my retailer John Lewis in coming days and will see if/what Sony do on fix, otherwise it may well have to be returned.

For comparison, I bought my BRAVIA 8 II from Currys in November 2025.

I’ve now been looking into the options available to me through Currys as well. Their process involves a live video appointment, which could be interesting given that the judder is intermittent and can be difficult to reproduce on demand.

There is also quite a lot of background to the problem now, including the troubleshooting already completed and the fact that the latest firmware has made no difference.

As Currys is a major Sony retailer, I’ll be interested to see what their experience is with this model and whether they have encountered this type of behaviour previously.

I’ll update the thread if I learn anything useful.

See the What Hi-Fi? article by TV & AV Editor Tom Parsons, 15 August 2026, titled ‘Adventures in AV: don’t make my mistake – turn automatic software updates off on your TV’ — it names firmware 114.602.080.1 as the problematic build and confirms Sony is aware.

Yet another disgruntled customer here. We bought our Bravia 7 last year and are experiencing the same issues since July. Awaiting reports from the Support team

Update: Sony confirmed on 2 September that my case (29173275) has finally been escalated to the technical team for investigation. This came after I explained that I’d recorded 20+ clips over several hours and none were usable — phone cameras add their own frame-rate artefacts, and the intermittent moments never coincide with filming — and asked instead for an Authorised Service Centre engineer assessment, which is what the guarantee actually provides. Worth doing the same if you’re stuck at the video gate: set out what you’ve tried, in writing, and ask for an engineer.

I’ve also escalated in parallel — Sony’s Customer Relations Office, and a Consumer Rights Act complaint with my retailer, which their executive team has picked up. Will report back when the technical team responds.

Well done for your persistence.

I gave up with support when they started making similar requests.

If possible, can you give them not only the details of this discussion but on another discussion site that we're not allowed to mention TIDDER

Don’t worry, this isn’t my first rodeo…. I attached a full evidence file which detailed 5 independent sources (forums /websites) confirming the exact same Sony software issue, we are discussing here.

Thank you for keeping us informed.  I put the latest software on today, ends in 170, but still the same. Only had the tv for 18 months, I can't believe how bad Sony have been. I will keep going till they sort it out.

I've recorded a video of the issue and sent to Sony.

Here it is:

sonytvfault.MOV

It's related to the TV app as the issue only occurs there. Switching TV channel over and back again resolved the issue.
