Bravia 8 stuttering since Firmware 114.602.030.1 update

I have been using my Bravia 8 65" for over a year on the same settings and it has been perfect. However a couple of weeks ago it updated to the firmware with the new EPG without channel logos.

Since then the image on quite often starts to stutter. This can be seen on OTA transmissions through the antenna and on inputs.

When using the antenna it will often begin to get jerky/stutter and I can change channel and change back again and it will be fine for a while but sometimes comes back again.

I have checked all my image settings and they have not changed.

It would appear this new version of firmware has broken things and many people on AVS forum, Reddit & Facebook are reporting similar issues.

I also initially thought update 114.603.100.1EUA (installed 24.09.2026) had resolved the issue but then found that picture jerkiness and motion blur returned. In one case, watching ITV+1, it was the worse I'd every seen.

Yes, I have the same issues with the program guide on Freesat but the pictures seem fine.

I also use the program guide with the TV app or YouView to what is available, and then switch it through to Freesat to watch

Hi there, I have the same issue reported on here by others when watching HD channels via aerial input in the UK. I mainly use BBC1 HD and ITV1 HD and they both exhibit the stuttering described on this thread.

I see others have raised a case with Sony on this and would like to do the same. Forgive my ignorance as a newbie, but can someone on here advise how I do this?

I am begging to think that it is only UK HD users using the Sony TV app that are experiencing the issues and as such they are probably a very small percentage of their user base. Hence they probably don't see the issue as being very high priority.

It's a shame we can't get this issue to be higher profile so that Sony will sit up and take note.

Same with a brand new Sony Bravia 7 ii - with all updates applied.

I do see judder with:

  • terretrial TV (over the air) using the built-in TV app
  • BBC iplayer catchup TV - I've not tried other catchup services yet
  • when a menu is called up or navigated or items selected

I do not see judder with:

  • Nintendo Switch
  • video played from connected USB using VLC

When first used the issue was really bad. The software update (current as of today) seemed to reduce but not solve the issue.

I should say, I have been extremely disappointed. This is a premium TV twice the price of any TV we've ever bought before. The two previous Sony Bravias we owned had no such problems at all.

There is so much more CPU and GPU (and co-processor) power in this TV than my Sony from 20+ years ago, and the one from 10 years ago - I can't believe calling up a menu causes the TV to judder.

The retailer have confirmed they see this issue in their in-store TV too.  Sony want me to send the TV in but I don't want to because (i) we know the issue is systemic not due to a random error, (ii) we'll be without a TV for weeks, and (iii) I don't want them fingerprinting and manhandling the TV which for us is expensive.

To be clear I do mean judder and not stutter - the irregular movement of what should be smooth motion, not the regular discretisation of motion due to refresh rates.

I had to register as another account for some reason, but I posted previously about this exact issue.

I've logged it with John Lewis and their repair partner (dkavs.co.uk) called me to say they would be sending out a replacement motherboard to address the issue.

I don't know if that means Sony know they have a hardware problem across their range of TV's, but having followed the (comprehensive) support instructions on the John Lewis website (reset TV, check Motionflow etc) this is a good next step in my view.

I've been capturing lots of video showing the issue using a separate camera setup on a tripod. I watch terrestrial HD mainly and it's appalling - maybe 2-3% of a single 1 hour programme shows the issue, but it's significant juddering / frame rate issue, and affects certain scenes only and especially credits. I see issues in Now TV Sports also such as Formula One.

I'm so disappointed in what was a What Hifi? Best Buy TV, supposedly far better than LG which I'd had before and worked flawlessly.

So my suggestion if you see this issue is to revert to your retailer, not Sony. The retailer are responsible for putting this right.

If the replacement motherboard doesn't solve the problem then the next step for me is refund. The affect on the picture is appalling and totally unacceptable to live with.

Interesting comments. I went in store to my retailer (Richer Sounds) yesterday. Their policy seems to be to direct you to Sony first.

It's at least positive that for both bravia7ii_user and davidd74 that their retailers seem to acknowledge there's an issue. Not the case for me (yet).

Suspect the issue will only be resolved by a firmware update, although maybe there's a hardware issue as well lurking in the background given davidd74's comments.
