MP4 FILES FFFFFKING JOKE

Sony Bravia,  2.5k worth of TV Wont play mp4 video files ? ...FFFING JOKE. Now reading about converting the file...why? It's *****. So i play them now though a 200 quid x-box ....first Sony I've owned...never again ... never have I had a TV with so many issues  and let downs....get your act together Sony you've ***** me off enough.

If I wasn't using sky I wouldn't even know what was on TV as the menu doesn't work as it should.

Getting nothing more than a picture from this TV  its been a complete waste of money.

Hi @Kel520,

MP4 is just a container, the files can be very different though. They can have different audio AND video codecs.

If the files you are trying to play use an uncommon video or audio codec (or a combination of both), your TV won't be able to play them.

You can circumvent any playback issues by using a different playback device, which you plug into your TV (e.g. gaming console, PC, MAC...).

From your post I can see you already use a gaming console to play the videos in question. May I know why this solution is not satisfactory?

Converting video files is not that much of an issue in my opinion and there are plenty free programs available to perform the necessary steps to make the files in question playable on your TV.

Why this solution is not satisfactory? are you kidding?

Mp4 video files are probably the most common out there, I have lesser cost and branded tv which plays these same files direct without any problem.

I don't expect after paying over 2 grand for a suppose top of the range TV to have problems playing common mp4 files, its a joke.

I was stupid enough buy a second Sony shortly after for the bedroom which surprisingly enough also doesn't play these files. I don't have an x-box in the bedroom !

These TV's should be clearly labeled "for picture use only" needs compatible sky box or simular for normal tv channel operation. Needs x-box or simular for normal mp4 play back. Needs a second after market remote  in order to navigate some in app operations. Needs something but we haven't quite figured it out yet, for casting to work realiable, quickly & smoothly from laptop, phone or other source.

As I see it Sony have there own video format they like to use and rather like Apple vs Microsoft you end up in this tug of war with compatibility issues. Thing is Sony's video format is about as common as a Dodo bird. The frustrating thing is that probably a simple download of codec from Sony would do the trick but there too proud to do so.

If there's one lesson I have learnt " you don't always get what you pay for" having had  what I'd call medium range TV's in the past performing as expected in some cases more. Being in a position to afford such a Sony TV, I thought I was buying something special ... how wrong I was.

PS Nic,

Converting video files is not that much of an issue you say. Really? So I'm expected to faff about converting files to play on a supposed top of the range TV, that once done is probably that rare that they then won't play on any of my other TV or equipment. All because Sony can't or rather won't supply the right codec for download in order to play these files? Really?

They may aswell add to the list and state USB sockets for decoration purposes only.

Hi @Kel520. Have you tried VLC. I have to use VLC for my dash cam clips.
