Sony A90K 42" cost $1399 in US but in UK £1800!

Hi I am not sure Sony is aware of this price issue, but it appears the pre-order Sony A90K 42" product in England and Europe is costing £600+ more expensive then Americans have to pay.

Here is the sources right off Sony's own websites:

American price tag of Sony A90K 42" is $1399

Sony US price tag.jpg

British price tag of Sony A90K 42" is £1800

Sony UK price tag.jpg

Even with some conversion or adding some taxes, VATs etc, its unreasonable and unfair to charge £600+ for UK/Euro Sony customers.

This UK/Euro price issue has been spotted on AVS and AVF Communities (the biggest TV forums in the world)

It would be great if someone from Sony can check this pricing or offer any incite into the major pricing difference or better yet correct it, thank you.

Hi @Hiren78

Obviously pure guesswork, but perhaps basic economics. Better trading deals in the US than in Europe and a massive market compared with the UK. The price will always going to be cheaper if you can sell 10,000 units than only 1,000 units!

One thing for certain is I’m afraid that Sony do not respond to questions about their world wide pricing policy on a public community of customers helping customers.

However if you do contact Sony directly, and they do provide any answers, please share the results on here as many of us will be interested.

Thanks, I have emailed Sony support I will update here if I get a reply, very curious since the LG 42" C2 OLED cost around £1.2K and £955 with LG special account offers this month and its perhaps a very similar product if not the same thing.

It did spark my interest as I have already pre-ordered a XR-55A95K which starts shipping this Monday 13 June. The UK price is £2699 and the US price is $2999. This does highlight the massive difference with the XR-42A90K. Perhaps Sony are using it as a loss leader in the US. I suspect the real price is $1899.

Edited my suspected price to match € price 😀

I think ill tweet Vincent Teoh, he loves making videos with price discrepancies and him being the most popular TV enthusiast on the internet might get some better understanding.

That's pretty crazy tbh.

USA is $1399

UK is $2200 dollar equivalent.

Normally Sony are pretty good at acknowledging the realistic currency difference, eg ps5 is $499 €449 £449.

Xperia Pro-I being $1799 £1599

The difference on the TV pricing is that crazy, it's surely going to result in most units being sold grey market over here for such a saving.

Yup totally agree, I can understand if Sony UK and Europe wish to add even say $100-200 extra but not £600+ difference.

Its a very bad look for Sony marketing and Sales in UK and European market to overcharge such a big price difference, pretty sure with the on-going energy and cost of living going through the roof people will soon notice this price gap issue on the Sony OLED TV 2022 series and start complaining @ Sony.

I can understand that if there's a difference in prices between the retailers in the same region. But different region? You can't really control that, as they both use different materials, specs, and most notably power specs. Also, they're controlled by two different markets and to my understanding that there's even completely different management parties within Sony for different regions. So don't really know how can they control that.

Well regardless my tweet is trending, the word is getting out there Sony UK and Sony Europe are not pricing products fairly and equally amongst the UK/Euro market.
