Bravia 9 Soundbar + SA-RS5

I have a 55A90J tv connected to a Bravia 9 soundbar and SA-RS5 rear speakers, when I turn the tv on the soundbar turns on but not the rears, the rears are not listed in the Bravia connect app until I manually turn them on then they pair with the soundbar and are listed in the app.

Should the rears power up when the soundbar comes on or not ? Have I done something wrong setting them up ?

Any help greatfully appreciated !

Hi fatboyz62,

not sure why the reply above contains links via a URL shorting service but if like me you are concerned with potential risks, analytical tracking, etc I thought I’d reply with a link to the Sony help guide on using your soundbar with the SA-RS5 rear speakers the guide on using also contains a link to explain the setting up process, so you can check your setup, etc, take a look and if you still need some help, post back and hopefully someone will be able to assist you further..

I’m not sure what mechanism could make the rears power up when they are switched off, even though they still consume 0.5w. I think you are supposed to leave them in Standby (1w).

i.e. I think the idea is you leave them on all the time, and they drop into a sleep (Standby low power) state when the main unit goes off, using just enough energy to have half an eye open to notice when the main unit comes back on, at which they fully wake up again.

Search the manual for Standby (1w) red light versus On (45.6w) green light :-

So - have you been turning them off, or is the problem that they don’t come out of standby when they should?
