unable to create recovery media

HI

I have a new Vaio S - Series (VPC - S13V5E). Like many others on here it seems, I'm having issues creating the recovery media. I've tried DVD-R and DVD+R but both stop before the first disc is created with a message saying there is an "error" and the process can't continue. I've followed the manual, which annoyingly doesn't specify which DVD type to use so have now bought 2 packs of DVD's but neither work.

Any ideas?

I'm up to date with the vaio and windows updates (windows 7 home edition)

Thanks

Nancy

Hi Nancy,

All you can do is try the following and if unsuccessful, I would contact Vaio Support and ask then to send you a DVD Recovery Set as there would appear to be a fault.

1. Try DVD+R made by Sony, Verbatim or TDK as the make of media seems to be important.

2. Unistall any Virtual Disc Software you have installed.  Programs like Daemon Tools or MagicISO interfere with the disc production.

3. Close all other programs before attempting to create Recovery Media.

I attach the recovery guide for your model: -

There is an alternative and that is to buy Acronis True Image which will allow you to keep a mirror of your harddrive which can be updated as you expand your programs, data and settings.

Hi

Thanks. I will buy some more DVD's and try again. I'm annoyed sony don't tell you which dvd's the use if it's that critical. So far I've wasted £10 on DVD's that I didn't otherwise need.... hey ho! Would I be better off with a USB stick? I tried using my external hard drive but it wouldn't recognise it. I don't want to buy a 16gb mem stick and then find that doesn't work either.

I have used Acronis before so perhaps that will be a better option.

I really don't understand why they make it so hard to create the recovery media....I think I prefer the days when they gave you the discs with the machine!

thanks

Hi

Well I thought I'd update this.

After buying and trying sony DVD's and it still not working I called Sony and they are sending me the recovery discs but I'm pretty angry to be honest. This laptop wasn't cheap and I've now spent nearly £30 on DVD's I didn't need. If specific DVD's are required for the software to work it should be made explicit in the manual and the software should work. When I pay £1400 for a laptop I don't expect to have to spend more money chasing after sony to get the recovery media creation software to work. This is my first experience of a sony laptop and this coupled with very poor delivery is not making a great impression on me so far....

I've decided to buy Acronis anyway so I can create continuous backups

Thanks for the help though
