vgn-ar21m... help please

this is my first post so id like to start by saying hi to everyone:smileywink:.

OK I'll be as detailed as possible , im trying to fix a vaio vgn-ar21m laptop ,the 17" display hd model.

originally when i first got the laptop to try and fix for a friend, when it was turned on everything was fine, except one half of the screen was black, so you could only view the left hand side of the display. "yes"  i thought, easy fix it"ll be the video/graphics card, or the actual screen needing replaced. so to try and rule out what one of the two i wired the laptop up to my lcd TV and he presto i got the whole picture , so from that i assumed then it had to be the display.now over the last couple of years I've fixed numerous problems in loads of different makes and models and have also found sometimes stripping down the laptop and giving everything a little clean can work wonders .now when doing this i like to use the online manufacturers  manual  and do it step by step so's not to lose screws etc .anyway i done this with the vaio hoping by some miracle it might solve the problem but it never , things went from bad to worse, because when I'd put it all back together i wasn't getting anything on the display,it also didn't sound like the hard drive was booting, and the fan wasn't coming on either by sounds of things .it does power on but all i hear is the dvd/cd drive making its noise.

ok i thought to myself i ve forgot something simple while putting everything back together , im confident it was the screen lets just buy it .so i did.  when it arrived £135 and a few days later i went through the process of stripping everything back and checking all the cables and making sure everything's where it should be ,fitted new display ,then went to power it up thinking please be fixed ,but no, still same issue ,nothing on display no bios menu screen, nothing ,also still no sound from the hard drive or fan.i again tried re seating the hard drive and ram i also plugged the  hard drive into my PC on slave mode and was able to access all the files.i ve tried taking the battery out and just using the power lead all the simple little things i can think of . is the motherboard died, im hoping someone out there has the answer because this is driving me crazy now . one thing i never done was unplug the rtc battery. does anyone recommend doing that? ,im thinking maybe this would reset something, anyway folks thanks in advance for any help, ie. tips/idea's  and for taking the time to read this post, Richard

Do you see anything if you connect to your TV again or is that faulty as well?
