True wireless WF-1000XM3 - bad call quality

I really like my new earbuds, specially regarding sound quality...

But when It comes to call quality its terrible. Ivé tried reset both phone (Huawei P30 Pro) and earbuds, I've tried both with and without NC. I've also tried prioritize connection vs audio in the app.

This is my second pair with the same issue, I even updated the firmware that came this morning.

I tried the buds with my wifes iPhone, but the call quality was still bad.

I really really want these to work, any ideas?

No it doesn’t. It makes it a little better but very very slightly.
People say that they don’t hear so much random noises, but they still hear more the bus passing by, then my voice.

And I noticed one thing, it works better with only one earpiece, with both the problem multiplies by five.

I’m sorry to say that although I love the music quality, for me it makes no sense that I have to get my wife’s AirPods to make a call...
If it were a physical problem, the airpods should have the same issue.

Sadly I’ve given up for a resolution from Sony, because the earpieces already went to the support, and they say that SONY said the phones were made for music, not making calls. It should say so on the box. And why do they advertise the call functionality, if it was not designed to do it. It’s all lies...

It’s like buying a high end car that comes with a sound system, the car drives very well but the sound System does not work. And the car manufacturers say that the car is made for driving and not listening to music.

I think that they are toying with the consumer, and I blame as well all the YouTube guys that make reviews, they have a hidden agenda. Think about it, they get them all for free, with no accountability, but a comment on the video that they can delete??

So I’ll finish saying goodbye SONY. I will not trust in you again. And I’ve stopped watching reviews of guys that get all the toys for free and receive money to do it. I think they have as much or more moral responsibility as SONY. In my case at least, because I chose based on their opinions. Shame on me as well, for doing that...

So in the end I have to say goodbye to the money (They are a lot more expensive than airpods) and try to learn from my mistakes.

@Daggerfall I couldn’t say it better. Sony lost many customers and for long. And those youtubers lost viewers. Bad very short term calculation

Not a great experience with these in a busy environment,  people on other end of call cant hear me, you need to be in a quiet environment for them to work. Think I will return for a refund, bought them for work, so need to be able to speak wuth clients clearly.

Hi,

I agree with Win_88. I believe that this is just due to the location of the microphone that's used for the noise cancellation. There's no separate mic for the calls so it may actually collect the background noise during the call. I think Sony are already aware of our feedback. I hope they'll be using this for future development.

I had same problem.  Try this.  In the Connect app with headphones connected,

Go to the "Sound" option.

Within the Ambient Sound Control area hit the drop down arrow to expose a bar that may be set to zero showing "Noise Canceling" as the current mode (or up high to 20 for "ambient sound" which mine was).

If it is showing "noise cancelling", move the bar below that up and it changes to "Ambient Sound".  Make sure that you set the Ambient Sound level to say "1" and tick "focus on voice".  I also found there is a level close to zero that marks it as "wind noise reduction".

You can do that during calls to see what works best for you. Hope that helps as just found it myself

My new WF-1000XM3 arrived yesterday. I already have the WH-1000XM3 so am familiar with the Sony Connect App. Pairing the WF it performed a firmware update and the connected, I played a few songs and all was good.

Then I had received a call (iPhone X) call quality was very good considering the problems people are having, I asked the caller (sister) how was I sounding at her end, fine she said, no problems just sounds like a normal mobile to mobile call.

Playing around finding the best tip to use, think I need to go with memory type 3rd ones. any suggestions?
