Unable to change sound level with finger movement on headset

I purchased the WH-XB900N headset a month ago but I am having issues trying to control the level of sound via the app or with the up/down finger movement on the right hand cup. Sometimes it works by the finger movement and other times it fails. Last night I was able to adjust it with the app under Adaptive Sound Control but today the sound control level is greyed out. Can you please help and advice me what the issue is.

Probably a defective touch pad - I would suggest to contact a service centre so they can investigate.
