Since I bought the phone in march 2017, vodaphone staff set up my finger print entry. Now March 2018, device has stopped and does not recognise my thumb.
Could anyone advise please the steps on how to get it started again.

That is correct! In the latest version(s) of the Support application, the test for the fingerprint sensor is available, which I think is great!
There has also been some other changes to some of the tests!

It's been a long time since I looked at the Support app, but it does seem to be more user-friendly than I remember.

I'm glad to hear that you find it more user-friendly now!
It has been updated quite a lot in the last months and there are new tests available, and some of the tests that were available before have been changed a bit, for example the touch test is now a two part test, instead of previous one, that was just one test. Most tests also have a follow-up if there is negative answer to the question that asks if it was working or not.
