Cedar as Modem for W 8.1

Phone downloads internet. Phone connects to PC companion. Tfrying to connect to internet via USB doesn't work. PC companion only comes up with an almost blank window. OS  is W 8.1 Sony tech support suggested repairing phone software. Didn't help. Re loaded PC companion. Didn't help. Any suggestions? I can do everything else through PC companion. Do I need to create a new network or somehting in W 8.1?

To use your phone as a modem you can go to Settings -> Connectivity -> USB -> Advanced -> Internet access -> Internet via phone. Then connect the phone with the cable and your PC should automatically connect.
