Incomplete backup and loss of data after firmware update

Dear Sony Ericsson,

I finally got around to updating the firmware on my Satio after getting tired of constant 'Connection Error' messages (which I am assured by my network provider are nothing to do with their service).

I allowed your PC Suite software to run it's the auto backup feature and installed the update.  Then I reconnected my phone and restored that backup.  All I can say is that I'm lucky I had done a manual backup prior to the update because none of my music or camera pictures were saved during the process!

Thankfully, I was able to restore my manual backup and got all of my media and pictures back, but all of my text messages are now gone - some of which contained information I needed, which was why I kept them.  Not to mention that I had to sit and physically restore all of my settings - standby icons, wallpaper, even my Bluetooth Device name!

What the h*ll kind of software only does a partial backup before wiping EVERYTHING?

The fact that this phone is not half of what it was advertised to be is bad enough, but I could have lost many irreplaceable personal memories if I had trusted the software (as most basic ability PC users would) to copy all of my personal information first.

I will NEVER purchase another Sony Ericsson device and I will discourage anyone and everyone I know from buying your shoddy equipment in the future.

Hello Lynettec,

I made my backups a couple of times. But I would like to give an advise about this, backup very large files it will take too much time as well a lot of errors.

Normally pictures, music and videos I do manually just to simplify my backup and making my life easier.

In relation to the text messages you should you use the messaging tool on the PC Suite and copy the messages to your system but you will not be able to send back to phone at least it will stay on your system maybe you could send by doing a forward message back to your phone through the messaging tool on the PC Suite.

As well there is something important on the PC Suite which is missing and is very important for those who have many applications installed. They had that facility on the previous PC Suite to install the applications through your PC and they should update the PC Suite by adding a tool like Apple which we could install as well remove applications because every time you update the firmware on your phone 90% of the app's installed will be lost including if you restore through a previous backup.

At the moment they are lacking of a good software engineering and design.

Let as see what they will bring in the future.
