I think the poster is within his rights to complain about Sony repair times and procedures on this forum - as it is pretty poor.
My Z1C phone seems to have recently developed a fault. I am hoping a software repair will fix the problem, otherwise I have to send away the phone for repair. The Sony rep advised 5-7 Working Days once they receive the phone - so we are looking at nearly two weeks to repair a phone - something which many people rely on a daily basis. I am dreading sending the phone off as I use it for work purposes too.
Before my Z1C, I had a Samsung S3, which developed a fault. It was repaired by a local Samsung centre and I had it back in less than 36hrs - dropped off 9am one day and collected 5pm the following day. The repair actually took less than 24hrs - the delay was me getting to the repair centre.
That is what you should expect from a modern technology repair service.
In this era, 5-7 days of repair is certainly unacceptable 2 weeks is even worse. Sony should provided a 1-1 exchange, even with a refurbished. set.
Reading this thread jogged my memory of the first 'smart phone' I owned.
It was one of those Ericcson Symbian phones will full qwerty keyboard and Psion OS etc.
I remember it developed a fault, 6 months into ownership.
I contacted Ericcson support, who went through some diagnostics with me and then agreed to a 1-1 exchange the very next day.
The courier arrived next morning and we swapped. 10 minutes later I realised that I had left my SIM in the faulty phone!! A quick phone call later the courier came back so I could retreive the SIM.
And when was all this? Around 2002/2003 - yes 12 years ago! So, if they could manage it back then - they should sure as h**l be able to manage now in the year 2015.
Seriously pathetic customer service - I bought my Z1C SIM free - i.e. a £400 device and they can't offer a fast repair / replacement.
I can sometimes see why some people prefer Apple - from what I hear from iPhone owning colleagues, their service is awesome. No wonder they sell 34000 phones an hour!!
On the plus side, if you ever get your problems resolved, you might quite like your Z3C tablet. I bought one last week (before my Z1C phone developed this fault) and I personally think it is the nicest tablet I have owned. After some initial teething issues, I am finding the battery life on it could be the best ever and the screen is gorgeous to look at.

Actually I had to repair two iPhones and one iPad last year. One user fault (water damage) and two devices fault (button and screen or motherboard - can't remember right now). All were replaced within 4 business days. On iPads they have fixed repair price for device class, no matter of which memory version you have. There is only one catch - replaced device either new or refurbished will have warranty counted from original device day of purchase. It is still better that 3 month warranty for pain screen replacement where device has 9-months more warranty but that's other topic. And they have one more advantage - you can do full device backup and restore it fully on replacement device without any hassle.
Apple service is included in the basic purchase price, it's why their products are so stupidly expensive. You are paying hundreds of dollars on the assumption is going to go wrong.
Some idiots even buy apple care, to further fund the just in case..
Z3C is the best tablet/phone I have ever had to date for business and pleasure, simply phenomenal performance. Does what it says on the tin. Barely opened my laptop since I got it 2 months ago. Flawless and battery easily lasts a full working day with intensive use. Cannot recommend this enough to everyone out there. Stunning.

I don't feel idiot because I bought Apple Care for my laptop. But I should say that Apple fools me with 12-month basic warranty.
On the other hand I had to paid once for LED screen replacement 6 years ago about 2 months after basic warranty went out. Also Apple Care adds 3 year warranty for battery so it is not that bad when it costs about the same as screen replacement for Z1.
But byuing Apple Care for iPhone is another topic... For one iPhone I have to Z3 Compacts which I must say is the best phone I used so far...
