My Xperia Ion can no longer survive even 5 minutes off the charger without instantly shutting down, not powering down, no the screen just goes fades to black. I feel it is a battery problem but I was reading that a software repair could possibly fix it. I've already tried force shutting down my phone via power button and volume up key to no avail, it still shuts down instantly as I turn it back on. I have been unable to recieve text messages either in the past few days. I can send them and they are recieved but I have not been able to receive any myself. Hopefully a software repair will fix both these issues and if not hopefully the damn Jelly Bean update will arrive soon and fix them but I am at a loss. My main question is if I repair my phone via Bridge for Mac, what will be erased in terms of data and apps from my phone? How do I properly backup anything that may be erased so that my phone will be as if nothing was lost?
Hi BAMM,
I have forwarded your question to the development crew and will get back to you when I get a definite answer. I would say that you could safely repair your phone, but seeing as you might lose data I'd prefer to wait until they give me a definite answer.
In the mean time, if you haven't already, you can now download Bridge version 3.3.
Kind Regards,
David
Before trying to repair the software I would suggest you to check the battery health.
You can do that by opening up the phone dialer and type *#*#7378423#*#*
Then under "Service Tests" option you will find "Battery Health Test". Just click on it and you will know if it is a battery issue or software. For a good battery the message would be like "Good, no need to replace it"
You were gonna get back with an answer? What's the answer/where is it?
Hi 8charlie,
I apologize, but I never did get a definite answer for this question. It might have gotten lost somewhere, I'll ask again.
Best Regards,
David
I'd also like to know. Did you performe the repair? My phone got messed up on its own. I lost all customisation shortcuts on my screens. It all ahppened randomly and I heard I can fix it with repair via sony bridge (I am a Mac user). But I don't want to loose more than just my settings - **bleep** you SONY! Any ideas will be highly appreciated?
You could use myphone explorer,it allows you to save messages, contacts etc.
Thank you. I can save my numbers and all that but. I am troubleshooting diseapearance of my shortcuts and widgets (calendar with all my appointments etc) from my screen. This is the real issue. I wanted to kow what am I going to loose if I do repair via sony bridge...and whether there is a point of doing it at all. I just want my phone looking exactly like I left it 2 days ago. I woke up it was booted in Safe Mode had chinese keyboard and totally essed up (80% of my icons and personal customisations were missing). Reall nightmare. It happened week after I installed new Jelly Bean....don't know if it is related but looks like there is some issue with the update people are complaining their phones suffer with the same symptoms shortly after update (plailusts, icons etc gone missing). I'd love to know what happened. I am not going to build my phone back up (which is as you may imagine a huge inconvenience for me) before I found out what happened to avoid my time being wasted in case it happens again in a few days time... To be honest this is something unheard of and it really pisses me off! Especially after I received an update for my MW1 (bluetooth) which is now randomly rebooting itself. Can sony get their updates right? They are a huge downgrades atm and real PITA!
Contact sony for more info.I am sorry for your problems.
