Xperia V - Damaged mic after dropping the phone in a jug of water?

New phone, just unpacked yesterday. Following a few waterimersions in a jug of water people are complaining of my voice being heard too low.

From what I've seen the main mic is on the lower right corner and that part shouldn't be affected by water getting inside the batterycompartment because it's on the outside.

Could it be that the little drop of 10-20 cm into the jug just "shook up" the mic and damaged it?

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

If your phone has been exposed to water, the sound can be lower afterwards since there can still be some water that needs to evaporate from the microphone/speaker. Do you still experience the same issue?

The first time I did a water test using my phone, I made a phone call maybe 10 minutes later and found that I can hardly hear the person on the other side. The same thing occured while using the microphone. Looks like the water finds itself a way to the speaker and the microphone. I left the phone drying for 1 hour and all was back to normal. So my guess is your phone should be back to normal when the water evaporates.

Thanks for the replies.

It's abit scary and feels really stupid to play around with the phone in water just to prove to oneself that it was made to be "water resistant". Dropping it in a jug of water while running a skypecall feels like being too rough, but after googling around after similar mic problems I tried to just put the hairdryer against the micside for a few min and the input quality to the mic was back to normal.

In one of the included safetymanuals there's an image showing you shouldn't expose the phone to hot water. Does this mean you can't use it in the shower? I've noticed how the touchscreen gets bugged if you expose it to a medium hot shower. Was trying to watch netflix and the video just fastforwarded on its' own.

Anyway, nice phone. It's fast and really good for its' price.

Also; Is it normal to see moisture inside the batterycompartment after taking the phone out of water or does it mean there's been a leakage? I made sure all the edges got sealed tight but was still surprized to see tiny waterdroplets inside the batterycover. Could this damage the phone or are 1-2 drops inside no problem?

There should be no moisture inside the gasket which is located on the back cover (which protects the battery). But you might see some water around the camera part etc. if you have exposed the phone to water and that is normal.

You may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).

Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

If the above does not help, you need to stop by a sony service.
