Xperia Z C6603 screen unlock problem

I removed my sim card from my phone. My McAfee and AVG passwords were then required to get back into the phone. [Edit: after I entered those passwords successfully I got to the phone's unlock screen].  I have always used facial unlock backed up with a pattern on my lock screen, but this time it's asking me for a password! I've never set up a password for screen unlock.  So I logged into my Google account and tried to use device manager to reset the password so I could unlock it.  For all intents and purposes the process appears to be working but when I try to type in the reset password it doesn't accept it and tells me I got it wrong.  I'm at my wits end, I really need to get into my phone!

If not,you may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion.The process will erase all internal memory.You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).

Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

The issue here is McAfee and AVG, you will have to contact them directly or reset your phone.

I knew my McAfee and AVG passwords and got past those two screens successfully before being confronted with the phone's own unlock screen.  The issue is that the unlock screen I am getting is asking for a password instead of my usual face/pattern screen. Anyway, today I remembered that I have myexperia so I used that to reset the password in much the same way as I had done with Google device manager and again it appears to have worked but still rejects my pass code.

Backup your phone and repair it with PCC, I still think its one of the antivirus apps, I've seen this before
