Apps that do not support 21:9

Hello, I recently bought Xperia 1 and so far it is amazing. One minor issue though some apps do not support 21:9 aspect ratio and are positioned to the top of a phone. Is there a way to change this position to center or bottom or maybe even zoom in so it would fill in an entire screen? If there is no such option maybe it could be implemented in the future?

Hi @greetz, I'm really glad to hear that you are happy with your Xperia 1!

You may experience that certain app content is displayed with unwanted cropping on your Xperia device with 21:9 display. It is not possible to avoid this by changing the display settings on the device.

Currently, some apps are able to fit 16:9 full-screen content on part of a 21:9 display. Others stretch this content to fit the vertical dimensions of the display, resulting in unwanted cropping on the sides. In some apps it is possible to switch between these modes, in others it is not possible.

I hope that answers your question although it's not a solution, but hopefully the apps will be updated to work fine on 21:9!

It was a pity you didn't really answer the question from this customer.

Instead of saying its tough luck if the content is not 21:9, Sony should be saying, our next software update will enable the user to zoom to fill screen. (like auto aspect ratio mode on televisions) 

There is much media  content that I'd rather crop in order  for the picture to fill completely my wonderful xperia 1 screen. Rather empty wasted black space.

I understand that and the information I gave to the user is the one I have available. If I had other information available, I would have of course communicated that instead.

At the moment, there is no setting in the device that will change this, but I will of course forward your feedback about this as being able to view all the content on the entire display is preferred!

Hi there, just purchased my new Xperia 1 and have had the same problem with apps like Eurosport Player etc that doesn't display in full 21:9 aspect, when using U Tube you can expand picture to full screen by pinching and widening picture which works fine but not with other apps.. Can you explain why this is and is there any news on when your software update will be available to fix this..?

Ive had good luck reaching out to developers and getting updates through them to fix the issue.

As far as I know, it depends on the application itself and the pinch to zoom so you get a more full screen experience (some of the content will be cut off due to you zooming in) is up to the application to support.

I don't know if there will be a setting added to adjust this in the display settings and your best bet at the moment is to get in touch with the developer of the Eurosport player and the other applications and ask them to add 21:9 support so you can enjoy the content in this format, without any cropping or black borders.

I will of course forward your feedback though, but I can't make any promises.

@SAWIG, that's awesome to hear! Some are very helpful and it usually easier to get something changed if the app is not used by that many users, at least from my own experience. In the end it depends on how nice the developer is and how willing to help they are.
