I can do a 'grab' in 21:9 when using Cinema Pro but thats not quick or useful. Am I missing a setting somewhere as all I can see is 1:1 4:3 & 16:9?
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. I do not have the Xperia 1, or any other Android device, I used iPhone. But, I am tempted, for shooting still, to look into getting one?
Interesting that there seems to be access through the API, what are the dimentions of the outputted image please? There's not guarantee that it's not been distorted, so I still need to find out the sensor size for stills. However, if it uses the video's sensor, which likely is a "Super Widescreen" sensor.
After weeks of messages going back and forth and SONY fobbing me off with nonsense answers I was unable to get the specific information from their customer services to find out if the still image sensor was the same as the video 21:9.
As they flat out refused I am 99% confident that SONY's Xperia 1 does NOT have a 21:9 native sensor for their still back facing camera and so the image will likely be cropped from a more common 16:9 sensor. Even with a software update to alow for 21:9 the stills will not be the full resolution, what a mistake SONY made!
I have to say, since the early 2000s I have stayed away from SONY products because of their disgusting customer service, and I don't feel I have missed out on anything, I really loathe them, such a disgusting service.
I am an Apple user and will stay as one.
What kind of a company trails at the bottom of the market, behaves in a totally digusting way toward a potential customer and can't deliver on what they promised - the bottom of the pack, that's who.
The upcoming Xperia 2 had better fix this issue as the camera is all important on a smartphone these days.
And once again: really disgusting, low grade, pathetic, short sighted and naieve customer service from SONY, I really hate them and I haven't changed my mind in 20 years, what a poor company.
@Roberr Because you have been unable to get an answer from Sony does not prove the camera sensors are 16:9 format. You may be right, but the phone is capable of taking 21:9 pictures, as shown by third party support for this (eg WhatsApp). All cameras (phone and other) give the option of different format photos. If you pick a format that doesn't match the image sensor, then it will be cropped - even on your beloved Apple phones or the most expensive digital camera you can buy.
The issue many of us have expressed is the inability to take a photo in 21:9 format with the X1 in the native phone app - an image that I am fairly certain will be cropped.
Still I want 21:9 in main camera app!
