hdmi output was disabled on xperia devices for "design" reasons, hdmi output comes by default os it was disabled by sony for some weird reason most likely due to getting people to use miracast, has this been fixed with the xperia 1 as i have decided to buy the 1 but if it has hdmi output disabled like all the other ones then i am doubtful.

Hi @mikeymop, I'm glad to hear that!
Yeah, I really want a new Compact model as well since I can't get used to these bigger phones for some reason, feels like running around with a tablet, but hopefully a new Compact model will be released.
Thanks again!
Hi @RottenFoxBreath, thank you so much for the link, this will hopefully help other users that are looking for such a cable/adapter!
Have a nice day!
Hey,
My Xperia 1 makes the same Problems. I tested with 2 Cable one of it was the Spigen. Everything is fine. Then i started Netflix and Prime. No Video but I hear Sound without Problems. The Display of both Devices, my Smartphone and my TV are black. Seems like an Hdcp failure. So I tested with a new Samsung with the same Cable and i works fine. Any Idea whats wrong with the Xperia?

I assume this is for copy protection
Exactly, copywriting protection. Its not the HDMI adapter. My old Galaxy S8 plus works but the Xperia 1 does not. I even used my Xperia 1 as a hotspot and the S8 was able to show Amazon Prime video on the TV via HDMI.
Then it is a Sony Problem but Sony says only you need an Hdmi Adapter with DisplayPort 4K@60Hz.
I don't think Sony or Apple consider it a problem to protect copywrited material. If fact it could be a growing protection among the rest of the manufacturers. I will be receiving the latest Galaxy Note 10 Plus very soon and hope to test this "problem" to see if it has spread to the Note 10. I hope not!
exactly whats on your phone, on a 16x9 display you have a 21x9 aspect in that so you got black bars on top and bottom, its much more reliable than miracast as it doesnt pause or drop frames or display any artifacts. Just plug it in and it shows up, audio is routed through external display too.
I used 2 adapters, one usbc to hdmi only, and a multi usbc type a, lan, hdmi, msd&sd,audio and usbc charge input. On that everything works but RJ45 Ethernet doesn't work
(could be this adapter but its probably the xperia, would be nice to have though)
