Sony X1 Retail mode?

Hi All,

I have an X1 I picked up second-hand buts its stuck in its retail mode and I can't seem to do basic things such as make calls without the promotional videos popping up and canceling my activities. I bought it knowing it was a retail unit but I thought that meant that it was used for displaying at a shop.

I've checked to see it can be boot unlocked and the phone says that it can. Unfortunately, it seems the X1 doesn't play nice with any of the flashtools or programs I'm told to download. Emma helped me download the needed firmware version but I can't seem to get any further?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi @MakingMethod, welcome to our forum!

There are two types of "demo" devices. The first type is a perfectly normal retail devices where the demo mode has been activated and you should be able to turn it off using the code below (open the Phone application and type it in, using the dialpad). When the code has been typed it, it should just flash with a window and you should be on the home screen again.

*#*#73556673#*#*

The second type is what we call a storefront device and these have a demo software and the demo mode can't be disabled using a code. These devices are not meant to be sold to customers, they are made to be displayed in a store.

If you can't turn the demo mode off using the code, can you send me a private message with your IMEI number and I can have a look at it. To send me a private message, tap my profile link below > tap on "Send a message" at the top right. You can find the IMEI number by opening up the phone application > type in *#06#.

Let me know how it goes!
