2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I feel exactly the same. Returning mine on Monday. But still want to have the Sony Triluminous display so will just now wait until I hear everything is sorted out, I'm tired of being an unpaid Beta test site.

My one regret is not buying from John Lewis as they offer a 90 day return policy, unlike the two weeks Im getting from Richer Sounds.. I may go for that, hoping that Sony will get the issues fixed within that timescale.... If not, I think the new Phillips Android sets should be available then, so could be an option...

I spoke to Amazon and they said I have up to 12 months to return mine if I'm not happy with it.

They have the best customer service experience I've had.

Id be amazed if they gave you a refund at that point, and assume thats probably just the intiial 12 month period you can retrun faulty items, unless of course you have the 5yr warranty, but even they it only offers a repair/replacement.

I know Argos do 12months too. I had to take back two SAMSUNG's, the second one was only 7 days away from 12months. They offered me 3 choices, refund, vouchers or replacement. I made a 4th, payed a little more money towards the replacement and got the KDL-50W829B, which sadly had a dead pixel, took it back and was told they don't stock it anymore, so gave me the same 3 options again. But the replacement was the KDL-50W805C.... should of taken the refund and gone elsewhere to find something. But that's whats keeping me onboard at the moment, Iv pretty much got 12 months, if updates don't improve, I will use this TV towards either a newer on later, or add a little more again and upgrade !

Yeah they're great with returns. They'll accept anything back I'm not happy with within 12 months. No questions asked.

Mine was a replacement provided by an insurer, they're referring me back to the Warranty and won't take it back 😞

Hi,

I recently purchased a KD-55X8507CBU 4K UHD to replace my old KDL-46W4000.

I have a Humax Freesat HD box and wanted to just replace the TV and continue using all my current kit.

My Humax box was previously connected via HDMI 2 and my PS3 via HDMI 1.

However, after various switching of the HDMI cables and power downs... I could not get a picture on HDMI 2.

So, I swapped the cable over to HDMI 1 and guess what? A picture!

Yes, it's a bit of a mission to scroll down and across to the HDMI 1 input widget to just watch TV, but its working. But my PS3 seems to also view on HDMI 1 too.  Seemingly auto-swtiching and not giving a true display of where the video input is being received from.

Will try another test tonight and update.

Incidentally, my One-Flick Touchpad Remote is working perfectly.

The only other issue I've noticed is a stalling/video lag when viewing 4K content on Amazon Prime. ( I have BT Infintiy 2 connection @ 70mb/s). YouTube 4K contents runs smoothly and looks amazing.

I purchased from John Lewis, but have faith I won't need to return my TV for any reason.. Fingers crossed.

Can anyone suggest an alternative TV (Samsung maybe)? I am miffed with this one due to the lag, crashing and lack of live pause\record. I cant find any TV in this price range (£849) that does those things (including dual tuner). Im not that bothered about Android TV. I just need Netflix.

I got my SONY from John Lewis 2 weeks ago.

UE48JU6400 looks good but cant record?
