2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

How do you find the input lag bro?

Do you use game mode? I've tried it but the picture looks horrid.

I think I've been lucky not noticed any input lag at all, I agree the game mode setting looks dreadful far to dark and gray, I use the vivid on every hdmi channel and it looks great and runs perfect.

Vivid?!

I can't use that,  too garish for my taste.

Mines going back to crampton and moore on Thursday, 55x8509c,  I've discovered what looks like dirt behind the front screen and the lcd panel.  I'm gutted because the TV was spot on in all other regards.

Are your ex Sony colleagues able to shed any light on the difficulties the software people are facing and if they are any nearer to getting these issues sorted out? I agree the picture quality is great and the sets look very sleek - its just they don't work as they should.

Mines in the hall waiting to be collected for return to John Lewis. Today is my 89th day of ownership - I was hoping Sony would have sorted things out by now.

I have written to my ex-colleague in Tokyo.  He's Chief Art Director / Home Product Design Group / Creative Center at Sony and responsible for the design of the X Series TV's. Whether he can find out about the androidtv issues is something I'm waiting to hear about..... I'll let you all know...

Thats good news. I would happily get the same set again if the problems could be sorted out. Making do with a spare Samsung in the meantime.

What do the build numbers represent? I noticed today the release key had changed. Only because the TV was being a bit more buggy than usual.  Netflix button on the remote wouldn't work, kept getting a message telling me to reconnect to network.  But yet the Netflix app in the home menu worked fine? I have a picture from 13th July showing that the release key was 2.257, and now it is 2.287. When and what were the benefits?  Anyone know?

Wish it was 5.1 surround

You are a bit slow... We are all waiting for a newer firmware with Android 5.1, USA has it already.

lol, you know what, I already knew that, I just got caught up in the moment when I saw in an old picture I took of the release key, and then saw it was different to what was on the TV. I'm a goon ha ha.

I should of checked the support page before jumping the gun! Any hoo..... Can't wait for the update to be pushed back..... Again!
