2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Does anyone have a glimmer of hope on the update dates?

We were told the 29th of September which got a lot of us excited, now we are hoping middle of October, why should we trust that information.

PLEASE SONY! JUST GIVE US SOMETHING!

Are we any closer to knowing if we will be able to record and pause with youview? If not i may as well send it back now

says the 13th now, but that doesnt include youview, twin tuner or HDD record

That is good news generally..

I assumed you were protected for uptp 6 motnhs were items have a fault, but this may just entitle you to an exchange or replacement rather than a refund.  However, I have had a refund for an item that was faulty after 4 months....

Wonder if John Lewis will now reduce their 90 days!

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me with my 3D on Kodi, it automatically shows side by side view on movies but the TV never recognises its 3D, no option to turn 3D on on the Action Menu button on the remote, and the glasses don't switch on.

- Tried blurays in 3D on ps4 and they work fine.

Do you have any suggestions?

I don't imagine John Lewis will change their returns poilcy. They have their BRAND values to consider... as do Sony... I sincerely hope!!??  Are you reading this Sony?

Kodi on Android doesn't as yet support 3D. It does work if you use Kodi on an external media box not running Android.

yep, i found this wierd, I had to go into one of the inputs (sky or another) then manually turn on 3d before switching back to plex/kodi to get 3d working.

How can a company sell a product that basically doesnt work in some form out of the box.

KDL-43W756C

It essentially doent have twin tuners, we cant record on it, i cant use voice on it unless i buy an additional item or use my phone, & its now around £35 cheaper than when I purchaced it form the same shop.

I cant even install most of the apps from Google play on it, to give it more media functionality,

I feel like a monumentl tool for buying it. Is this how SONY want thier customers to feel?

EDIT

This TV is a little like that bomb detecting equipment that was beeing sold a while back that ended up just being a box with some loose wires in it.

Throwing components into a box does not constitude basis for a product feature list SONY.
