Sony ST5000 Sound Bar

Some weeks ago I  informed you that I was having difficulties with the above.  Eventually Sony replaced my unit and I set it up again eagerly waiting to see if the problem had gone.  Surpise surprise it was just the same.  Pages 29 and 31 of the Instruction Manual says quite cleary that the display will appear on the TV screen - well it did not with me. If anyone has had similar problems I would like to hear from you.

Thanks for your reply.  I have been in touch with them for over 2 months and am on first name terms with them!  I don't think they know the answer.  I have just spoken to a high flyer in the Complaints Team who admits that if the manual says it should do something it should!  Who wrote the manual I asked.  He says I have 30 days to take the unit (the second one I have had) back to the retailers and insist on another replacement!!  What if the 3rd unit is the same which I believe it would be.  I have just completed a lenghty and truthfull email to Sony UK Chief Executive and asked him a lot of questions and  to get involved.  I await a reply with not a lot of hope.

Hi provostkaypark,

 

I guess if the set was exchanged already and you still can't get the menu on the TV, this might indicate that the issue is not related to the soundbar itself. Maybe there is an issue with the connection with the TV. Are you sure it's connected only via HDMI through the ARC port? It would be better to try the set with a different TV using different cables and check if the menu appears.

I seem to be getting there!!  I have now discovered that the display for the sound bar settings etc appear on my TV screen when you take Sky out if the equation.  I had discussed this with the Sony Expert in the retailers and we kind of both came up with this possibility.   Ofcourse when you switch on Sky Q box no displays are available.  There is obviously a software conflict between the 2 boxes.. I do not think either Sky or Sony know about this.  I have passed on the details to Sony and asked them to respond - I will not hold my breath!  I also contacted Sky who seemed less than interested as I confirmed to them the Sky Q box was working okay and it must be a Sony problem.  I have suggested both speak to each other and try and resolve - fat chance.  I was so disappointed with Sky's attitude that there is a letter of complaint winding its way to Sky as I type.
