TV remote overriding set-top-box remote

The remote for my Sony Bravia is occasionally overriding the remote of my new BT (Humax-manufacture) set top box.  I never had this problem with my old Sagemcom box, so how can I avoid this over-ride?  Once the TV remote has taken over I can’t access recordings, HD channels, iPlayer or anything of the like until such time as the Sony remote feels like relinquishing control to the BT remote again.  Any guidance for a technophobe pensioner please?

you probably activted the "control via HDMI" function on either the TV or your set-top-box.

Thanks for your reply. When box remote is happily in control the TV remote is set to HDMI.  When TV remote takes over, it resets itself to TV.  This is what I'm trying to overcome.
