On startup the screen is fuzzy with verticals lines and you can just make out some of the Vaio logo but eventually the display is all bright grey. I have dismantled the screen as per online instructions and reseated the connections to the inverter and also both ends of the ribbon cable (both at rear of screen and connection point in base of laptop. However we are still having problems. Sometime the screen comes on still very fuzzy and you can make out text and move the mouse but only for a few seconds until it goes bright grey with no text again.
We are wondering if this is due to the invertor, ribbon cable etc or is the LCD damaged. We have no visible or known damage specifically to the LCD we know off which makes me think it may be a cable.
Is there any way to prove where the fault lies?
