Hi ALL,
I'm wandering if any one could help. I'm discusted at Sony support and how they have handled my case. Please read the below letter i sent with my laptop for the second time reqarding a the plastic and the metal hinge not being bonded properly.
I have also included images I took of the faulty hinge but yet they will not repair it under warrantee and say that the laptop has been dropped when it hasn't. It's in mint condition.
They want £250 to fix it. I seriously thinking of getting the laptop repaired elsewhere then claiming the money back from sony via a small claims court order.
I'm so gutted. Everything electrical I own is Sony, i've never had any problems in the past but have now lost my faith with them.
If you are buying a laptop under the influence of the long warrantees sony offer the do not bother or read the T & C's carefully. All you need to do is search the internet and you will find a lot of people in the same boat as me with Sony.
Heres the letter i sent the second time the laptop went back.
Heres some of the pictures I attached to the letter.

To Whom It May Concern,
I recently sent my viao to you to be fixed under warrantee for two problems. The mouse button was not working and the hinge was faulty on the left side. You fixed the mouse button but not the hinge, stating that it was physical damage, had been dropped and there was a crack in the plastic. There is clearly NOT a crack and the picture you emailed was actually a joint.
Since I’ve had it back the screw near the hinge has come loose and you can NOW see exactly where the problem is. The plastic of the screen has come away from the metal hinge because it has not been bonded properly therefore this is clearly a manufacturing problem not damage. You can also see the laptop is in immaculate condition with no signs of damage or being dropped.
I have taken pictures of the problem, posted to some online forums and visiting a few repair centres. All the specialists i’ve spoken to have the same opinion. “This should defiantly be covered under warrantee and there is no physical damage”. They say the binding between the metal hinge and the plastic screen casing has come away due to not being bonded. They’ve also quoted the condition of the laptop and that there are no signs of physical damage. There are two lugs which attach the metal hinge to the flimsy, outer screen casing which have come away. This can be clearly seen when you slightly separate the screen casing near the hinge.
I’ve attached the screw which has come lose. Maybe this was the initial problem. If you had taken the time to open the laptop casing (where the screw had come lose) then you will have noticed that the metal has come away from the plastic and the case was not cracked. Instead I was just sent a picture of the outside.
At this moment in time I’m very disappointed with the support i have had from you and am very worried as nearly everything electrical I own is Sony and I’ve had no problems at all in the past 10 years of being a loyal customer. My Mobile phones, TV’s, Amps, PC, video cameras and several laptops are all Sony. I’m actually in the process of buying the new Sony P series. !!!!
I just hope that a responsible person would take a GOOD look at this laptop and see that it has been well looked after, not been dropped, had any forceful damaged, is in immaculate condition and then maybe accept that this is a manufacturing fault.
I hope we can resolve this matter amicably without me having to be without a laptop for a further 7 days and hopefully without wasting any more of my time or yours. On that note I would like to say that I’m a persistent person and am not willing to just let things drop when I know there has been no damage on my behalf to the laptop.
Hi gumulla,
I've repleid to you other post, I can understand your frustration but please don't double post in future as this causes confusion and can waste our time..:smileywink:
come on sony i also have a house full of your products and have been very pleased with your warranty so far. but this worries me, your failure to investigate this problem properly degrades you otherwise good service. so fix it for him and anyone else that has this problem.
I have a VPC-S12L9E/B and the left hinge has started to creak. Its only just started doing it today but I have only had the laptop 3 months. It cost nearly £900 quid. I am going to get in touch with Sony first thing on Monday morning when they open.
I am worried they will do nothing. Other than the creaking there doesn't seem wrong but will they sort it out? I am worried that they will stitch me up like every other person on here. MIne too has not been dropped, it has only ever sat on a desk or in the Genuine Sony laptop case.
I am very worried.
Hi i have had same problem, i bought a nz21t hinge went tight on one side, that wasnt main problem ,motherboard went after 16 months, just got a replacement e-series hope this lasts ,all my home electrics are sony ,dont think i would buy another sony laptop
hi all sony products are good , but not laptops, i think we have all been had!
TOTALLY AGREE !!!!!!!!!
Has anyone sucessfully took SOny to a small claims court?
Hi Mate
I have the new F Series and my hinge has come misaligned and because of the misalignment its started to creak, the hinge on the right is perfect
i sent this in for repair 5 months after purchase because i wasnt too bothered as i thought its under warranty for defects
What i was told was that the laptop comes misaligned from factory
What "BULL" all the f series laptops in sony centre, selfridges and pc world were all aligned but mine
they wont do anything for me at all, they sent it back
i am so frustrated to be told that its passed manufacturers spec and the hinges are to factory spec when i know its bull,
Sorry for my french
have you had any joy?
Dont buy sony ever again, get a toshiba or HP or a MAC
