Hi, I recently bought a Sony Xperia X...
it stated that you could use a micro SD upto 200GB, so I purchased one:
details: SanDisk Ultra 200 GB MicroSDXC UHS-I Memory Card
I previously had a Sony Xperia Z2, where I used the same type of SD card but which was upto 128GB.
I inserted the SD card in & everything seemed OK, it let me store the photos on it fine + it let me move some apps onto the SD card too (the apps worked fine)... but everytime I tried to record video, the mobile just froze, came up with an 'unknown error' message and went back to the main screen...
I ran a few tests myself...
it lets me record video on the internal memory fine.
it lets me record video onto my old 128GB micro SD card fine too.
it just won't work when I use video to save onto my 200GB micro SD card.
(the whole reason I bought thr Xperia X was for the camera within in, hence me also buying a 200GB SD micro card).
is there something else I can try to sort this out?
or is this a known problem?
Thanks in Advance.

Out of curiosity, did getting a new micro SD card resolve your issue? I've having the same exact issue with a Sony XZ and 256GB Samsung card.
Thanks!
no with the Xperia X, tried another SD card, even got the mobile replaced... still same issue... either Sony have done something to stop it working with one of their updates or the specifcations were written incorrectly...
since you're having a similar issue with another mobile (where is says it can handle a 256GB card), I'm hoping it's something Sony did with one of their updates & thus can be sorted out...
Thanks a lot for the information.
I also thought the specs could be wrong, because on the XZ page they say up to 256GB is supported, but strangely the pdf manual download says 128GB.
Like you said, hopefully more users experience and report here on this issue, and Sony realises this is a big problem to sort out in a next update, There's no point having a huge MicroSD card which can't save big video files directly into it, that was what the card is for!

1 more thing, did you format the microSD cards using your phone, before usage i.e. installing apps and updates etc?

I tried formatting both via a computer & via the mobile itself... made no differance...
when I got the replacement mobile, the first thing I tested was this, but the updates had already come through at this point...
I suppose I could try a factory reset and test the 200GB microSD card again, but then at some point thsee updates will need to be installed anyway so don't think it'll help.
It's annoying that Sony said that for the phone I got (Sony Xperia X) both online and within PDF user documentation that you could use a 2000GB microSD card when you can't - it works for most things (photos, apps) but for recording videos it doesn't. From what you say this is not only a problem with the Sony Xperia X, but its happening on some of their other models too.
& what's even more annoying it that I'm going to have to now buy another SD card, a 128GB one this time.
Unfortunately, I have to confirm, that same behaviour persist on Xperia XZs. 200GB card can't record video. Incredible bug.
Sorry to hear about that mate, and finding it hilarious that the bug carried over to the XZs too (would be the biggest joke if the XZ Premium has this problem too).
I can confirm that this problem also appears on the X Compact and it's probably reasonable to assume that the XZ Premium has the same issue.
I wish SONY would escalate this case and try to get to the bottom of it.
I want to use a 200GB or larger microSD card and now I'm skeptical to order any more, since they probably also have this issue.
Hi all, apologies for the late reply.
This has been forwarded internally and is being investigated. I'll let you know as soon as I have any new information to share.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience that this causes.
@Cristofer, this issue has been floating around for more than THREE MONTHS already and has not been addressed. The issue is with the latest phones and with the flagships.
It's time for SONY to fix this ASAP.
If possible, can you elevate this case as an urgent matter, as this might possibly cause lenghty troubleshooting cases for the customers and involve possible real monetary losses.
The X series does not currently support 200GB and up memory cards as stated in the specifications/manuals.
Two months ago I bought a 200GB Sandisk card for my Xperia X. I did not want to update Android, so I needed an alternative solution. I solved the problem by using a PC, made two partitions on the card, one partition of 128Gb and the other of 55GB. For now everything works perfectly, the phone recognizes two partitions, normally captures the video.
