Screen not always responsive

My phone has Android 8. Sometimes the screen doesn't respond to touch. I notice it most often when I draw down the notification shade and tap something and get no response. Other times it will be a pop-up (sometimes one of the permissions pop-ups on web sites); tapping yes or no or whatever option does nothing. I hit the phone back button to move on. This is an intermittent problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know a remedy?

If it happens after your phone has been running for many days or weeks, it could be that the available working memory (RAM) has been gradually reduced. Quitting currently unused background apps or (better yet) restarting the phone should help.

If you suspect there might be a hardware problem you can try the Sony internal hardware tests. Type the following into the phone dialer:

*#*#7378423#*#*

Select Service tests, then Touch.

You'll be able to see if there are any gross deficiencies, at least.

Restarting your device once in a while is a good habit to clear up things internally.

If you cant tap yes/no in popups then you might have some overlay app running (like screen filter, bluelight, lux etc) Android blocks security popup clicking when they are running due to security.
Solution could be to whitelist some apps when corresponding app allows it.

This could be it.  I use Lux. Tell me more about how to whitelist.

Lux Settings->Advanced->Sleep List.
Here you can add certain apps or behaviour(like apk install etc) where Lux turns itself automatically off, and back on if you leave.  Which one is exactly correcty for the popup you described, I don't know.

I think the pop-ups show up when using Chrome, but I'll watch and see. If that's the case, Lux will have to go. I don't know how it will be usable if I have to tell it to shut down when in the browser.

Thanks for responding.

Did you check this:

settings->battery->tap 3 dots->consuming apps

It will lead you to consuming apps.

Did you consider using night light instead of Lux?

Check xperiablog.net for instructions howto install.

You might as well check background activity.
