Xperia XA - Horrendous battery life

I am getting barely 2.5 hours on screen time with the Xperia XA. I'm not doing anything stupid like leaving it on max brightness (it's auto) and I don't run masses of apps - in fact as you can see from the screen grabs it is clearly the display which is the main culprit.

How on earth is this supposed to reach the advertised 2 days battery life? By not using it? It's absolutely useless.... very unhappy, particularly because it is otherwise a rather nice little device with that edge-to-edge screen.

Have I got a dodgy battery?!

Settings > battery > take screenshots of the list and also tap on the top 4 items on the list

it will be wise to download a battery analyzer app, most likely you keep WiFi on all the time, and one or multiple apps and / or services keep the phone awake, keep in mind that poor network coverage will drain the battery fast.

Up to 2 days battery life****

**** Battery life has been measured against Sony Mobile Communications AB’s smartphone usage profile, defined in September 2014 to represent the typical smartphone user’s active condition, including but not limited to a range of usage scenarios (calling, texting, web browsing, social networking, game playing, music listening, picture taking, picture browsing, online video watching, video recording and playback).

@uliwooly

thanks for your responses. my OP shows the GSAM battery analyzer app which points the blame squarely at the screen but it doesn't correlate with the default Android app. Extras posted below as requested.

I managed to reach 3 hours of on-screen time today, but only by being especially careful, far from the "typical use" you quote in your second post and not really practical for everyday living. Maybe I can turn off the wifi, although 4G consumes a lot too.

Any other insights... it would be nice to get to 11pm without a panic...

ah - just seen another post in this forum with a response from Sony which indicates there may be a software problem. Going to try their workaround and check performance tomorrow.

So any improvements?

Nope. Getting only 12 hours a day still on low use. The workaround specified in the other thread didn't make any difference for me.

Here's hoping the software update (whenever it arrives) solves the issue as running out of juice at 8pm (or sooner if you want to do power hungry tasks) big time.

I did a factory reset, and it worked wonders...
With wifi and mobile data turned off, the device only burned through 6% of the battery overnight

One thing that may reduce power load of the screen is to turn off image enhancement under Settings->Display.

Another thing that drains your battery dry is the GPS. Turn it off by going to Settings->Location->Mode and select Battery Saving.
