Xperia 10 II dual issues...

First of all a BIG THANK YOU SONY for making a match for Sony Elm (my first and my favourite super high upgrade with this device). It have so much potential and if you could bring it earlier you were still the number one in every aspect! It's great also for now but look how many Chinese are pretending to do great stuff and you could do it in the first place and are fooling so many to but their crap.

Let me put some cons here that need firmware upgrade:

1. THE CAMERA. Yes indeed stock camera (like always for like.no.other). It's the most important  as it should be in first place because many will get fooled by it not to buy it (sadly I know fools that do that).

a) Focusing it's quite slow and it takes some time mostly on the zoom lens sensor to measure some things and it takes time. Usually the picture is took before the focus is made and for that the picture is in blur.

b) Textures are bad while zooming and the only setup that gives it perfect it's in the Backlight scene that cannot be selected manually (wrong option Sony for 10 II that L4 is having it) only when software is choosing it and in the rest textures are bad in superior mode.

Texture examples:

bb) With Backlight activated (very hard to shot because superior mode must be tricked):

DSC_0011.JPG

bbb) Without Backlight only software's fast\first choice (it's as bad even worse the HDR shots in manual mode):DSC_0014.JPG

c) Manual mode is only for the 12mp sensor back and 8mp front (should be all 4 isn't it?!) and 1 sec shutter speed (low light windows example with zoom -flash on also- because without it exceeds 10 MB) is\are bad as like below:

DSC_0131.JPG

For camera conclusion make textures as the Backlight mode (in the first sample above) in every situation of light because it's simply amazing regarding the clarity and colours. Speed up sensors for focusing and fix the manual mode that is so incomplete (only 1 sensor active and so many bugs).

2. Torch light is low. I saw when using blitz the led can get much stronger light. Put that intensity for flashlight mode not only for camera blitz.

3. Phone speakers sometimes are low on calls and YouTube make a mode to give it more sound. Noise reduction from secondary mic still weak, make it stronger.

4. Fingerprint have a delay on touch. Make it a little more responsive.

For now it's like that. If more issues appear I will write them here. Please take note of these and that I have 59.0.A.5.2 upgrade already installed.

Thank you!

Alex

I have upgraded to 59.0.A.3.42 version but nothing mentioned above didn't changed as needed. Sony what were the changes for the latest upgrade? Please take care of camera module and put the flashlight have more intensity. At least... Thanks in anticipation!

I come with more samples of an unfinished camera driver. Sony this is still an expensive device for letting this device unsolved. So, below:

1. I am not a selfie fan but still it's so poor even more than an XA or an Xperia device older than 3 years old. I put in acdsee a watermark not to expose my face but the other details in the selfies are same as the stock camera did.

1.a) Manual HDR mode have very poor processing regarding clarity and noise. Take a good look at how many color and texture noise this sample contain. More than that, a weird white line appeared near my face, a line that has nothing to do with the added watermark and if you can see in the other samples appear only in Manual HDR mode. It only have 64 iso. Is this a Sony quality mid range selfie camera? Surely not! Xperia XA\XA1 were having crystal clear HDR selfies. Dynamic range in ok but here are software issues!

hdr.JPG

1.b) Portrait mode is having issues with textures of blur. My face wasn't detected at all even in the viewfinder everything was ok. After the first touch of the screen the exposure dropped suddenly to what can be see below in the shot. I didn't change anything in the menu but the simple fact of touching the screen the exposure did what it did. Dynamic range is very poor!por with touch.jpg

1.c) This is the same portrait mode but I didn't touch the screen for any setting only for shot and this time the exposure remained default. Still the textures are bad and face recognition is poor as same as dynamic range! Sony none of past Xperia mid\low range didn't have this kind of poor dynamic range.por without touch.jpg

1.d) This is a superior mode non portrait setting. It's like open the camera and shot. This one is the best among all including the missing of the interrupted line like in the a) shot, but where is the dynamic range while it's a backlight superior shot?!superior.JPG

2. Portrait\bokeh mode for back camera now below.

2.a) Focusing is so hard to make. Even it's the perfect distance the software takes the shot before the focusing is made. Most bokeh shots are in blur overall anyways. In this one no bokeh blur and no right focus is made. In viewfinder the blur appears but the shot is without object shaping. This shot have 800 iso while light is so good and no exposure values was modified. Software issues...

DSC_0010.JPG

2.b) In this shot I put the exposure to the minimum because I wanted to see how better will focus, shaping and blur will be. Not a chance even I put the device a little far away to get the focus (focusing can be done very close in the viewfinder but after touching the shot button the focus is lost while it is saved - so weird) as it can be seen and iso it's still too much for a very good light space (500 iso - after 200 iso the noise in processing is too much and the grains are annoying) so software issues...DSC_0011.JPG

3. Dusk\low light shots.

3.a) Manual mode without any settings. 2x zoom, 12800iso the light is still good. Not great Sony!manual.JPG

3.b) Night mode with 4x zoom. Even without zoom iso jumps over 10.000 iso. Night mode with that iso?! Focusing it's so hard to take and manual focusing is missing here. Metering is not working in this mode...night shot.JPG

3.c) Superior mode in the just open and shot. Focusing is slow and imprecise. Iso jumps to 12.800 and details are so weak. Xperia Z3+ was much better in this regard. Take that processing and put it in superior mode at least for all 3 rear cameras...

superior bad focus.JPG

3.d) Zooming in superior mode... Focusing slow and imprecise, noise eveywhere though in non zoom it was kept ok (some shots are great but some are like this). Issues when changhing the camera module while zooming but software is choosing when and why and the user needs to be lucky to have a good zooming shot in superior mode. Manual mode 1 second shutter speed is useless, it's only full grain like in previous post. So manual mode can't help in any way. Software issues...superior zoom.JPG

I have reached the limit of images posted in one reply so I will limit here too but Sony, improvements need to be done everywhere. Software version 59.0.A.3.42. Please Sony, this device can perform better!

Above, few more shots with flash took recently... Not to mention that stock camera sometimes freezes and needs restart. Results are like that. Sony please fix these issues faster for people to enjoy more this device!

Thank you very much!

After testing the 59.0.A.6.24 latest upgrade for this device the differences are almost none.

1. First of all camera needed some changes and that changes still with 59.0.A.6.24 miss big time to improve this device (look my previous posts and its quality in shots):

The 12mp sensor manual HDR still the worst quality for any Xperia I have seen. Grain is so nasty for this 50 iso shot. The 12mp sensor manual HDR still the worst quality for any Xperia I have seen. Grain is so nasty for this 50 iso shot.

Ultra wide still doesn't have mettering when using flash. There are situations when ultra wide does good in shooting for some macro or portrait.Ultra wide still doesn't have mettering when using flash. There are situations when ultra wide does good in shooting for some macro or portrait.

2. Flashlight is still low in light intensity and blitz is strong. It needs to be as strong as using camera blitz. 59.0.A.6.24 did nothing.

3. Screen is still not that strong in sunlight by 59.0.A.6.24.

4. Speakers and noise cancelling in call are still not that great in 59.0.A.6.24.

5. Fingerprint responsiveness is the least I care for now, but still doesn't perform great (as older Xperia devices) when using (just little) sweat finger updated to 59.0.A.6.24.

So what did this so late 59.0.A.6.24 upgrade did?! Admins please don't do foolish things and send these issues to Sony. Some people will skip foolishly this device as long as the quality of camera at least is that bad. No other Xperia did not have this processing in manual HDR mode and more (look my previous posts).

PLEASE IMPROVE XPERIA 10 II SOFTWARE!

Thank you anticipated!

Sony, it's about two months while these problems are so unpleasant to have in a brand new phone.

No other Xperia got these problems of focusing and noise at least regarding camera as far as I know.

Not even L4. Who in the world admins this site?! Sony engineers need to know these issues and solve them in faster pace the software issues.

I am a die hard fan and you take this for a joke?! Why you do this to Sony?! Sony why you do this to yourself?!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE FASTER!

Thank you!

Sony, it's so much timed passed while these problems are so unpleasantly not fixed for a brand new phone. No other Xperia got these problems of focusing and texture's noise (at least) regarding camera as far as I know. Not even L4.

Sony why you shot in the foot like this delaying this and doing this to your most amazing devices and die hard fans?!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE FASTER upgrading camera driver at least!

More camera results with 10 II by 59.0.A.6.24 stock camera app\driver...

1. Manual hdr mode for front and rear camera have sometimes this effect. I took the front one and cut it to be more close to these green lines. Well Sony?DSC_0033.JPG

2. Manual mode 1s shutter speed (below 1\30 the results are the same as one below). Well Sony?DSC_0057.JPG

3. Manual hdr. This is not a driver issue but to have an idea how good are Sony's lenses are for cheaper Xperia devices. Why Sony?

20200809_171811_IMG.jpg

Sony for how long you will accept to make this kind of compromises? For how long you will take to solve its camera driver (at least)?

With best regards from a die hard fan!

Alex

I made last night (30.08.2020) a screen shot video to show how bad it focuses 10II stock photo camera on low light, how bad processing is and how useless is it's portrait and manual modes for still long exposure shots when sometimes it freezes. For advanced shooters this device it's useless compared to XA or XA1 even (not to mention Huawei's or Xiaomi's much cheaper devices). Third party apps are better than stock on focusing and color management but still not great compared to much older Xperia devices. Take a look on how I set the app and how a ta certain point it freeze no shot was in focus only with manual focus. In so many cases same slow and bad experience with focus and processing in daylight. Take a look (the clip is shared with Drive to keep the best quality possible).

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ryWbgBg71EMIRFGSX5I_DiYA7eBMdxlr/view?usp=sharing

So Sony what are you up to? Die hard fans to completely skip you?! Who do you want to fool? L4 is better!!!

DO SOMETHING AND FIX 10II's CAMERA!!!

The pictures look pixelated from the lack of focus, make sure your hand remains steady even after pressing and noticing that its focused, try to enable safe mode too, which stops other apps from running leaving space for the preinstalled apps to work as they should, and see what happens, if there's any betterment in the performance of the camera, it can be enabled from the restart menu if you press and hold on power off.

Run the camera test in the support app, that sometimes works in fixing bugs.
