How to edit contact names

How do I edit my contacts name? Should be simple but I can't seem to be able to do it. I have to delete the contact then re-enter them? Thanks

Contacts-tap on one of them-tap on the pencil and there you go.

Wish it was that simple
When I do as you say the name comes up but there's no way to delete it. Have you tried?

To delete a contact,just tap longer on it and you will get the option to mark and delete.

That happens when you are trying to edit a contact that was synchronized by a third party app such as Facebook... You need to create a separate contact and then join both of them by tapping "Link" under the 3 dots menu
