I assume that the Sim has been inserted the correct way and not inserted wrongly at any point, Then I will also assume that you have a hardware fault which I'm sorry to hear but you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
this happened to me when the phone was blocked in Vodafone(vendor) . If the inserted sim is ot from that vendor, phone does not recognize it. try another sim, fom a different phone company.
