I upgraded the firmware on my X10 to R2BA020 (Rogers) last weekend, and have noticed that ever since, maintaining a 3G data connection seems to drain my battery much quicker than it used to under the same conditions.
I tend to tether my X10 to my laptop using PdaNet at work. Whereas doing so under the old 014 stock firmware would result in my battery dropping from 95% to 55-60% over the coarse of my 9-5 workday, it now drops to 55% by noon.
I have verified that my X10 is indeed charging over the USB connection to my laptop, and nothing other than the firmware has changed. So I'm not quite sure what the issue might be.
Any ideas?
i updated yesterday to r2ba023 from 014 [default] ; this being my first update ... i can't tell you specifically what the update does besides back-up option [witch sucks by the way], keyboard fixes and better touch sensitivity ... if i find any changes in battery life i'll let you know ! ... try updateing to 023 ... if you can :s

back-up option...sucks
How so...? It seems like a good idea to me, though I don't know how it is going to work in practice when it comes to restoring data.
it's indeed a good idea ,but comparing it with the nokia back-up, it's junk ! ... i did it in the morning [now being 8PM] and it went well ... did a repair after the wireless update to be sure it works well ..
what do you think ??? contacts not restored ,partial settings restored ...and now the auto-import for contacts is not working ... sim asks for pin every time i restart the phone 2-3 times
Ah. That doesn't sound like what I hoped it would be...
i know
Not sure if 023 is available from Rogers yet. But I'll check.
I haven't been able to find it on Rogers yet (but I haven't tried through the Update Service yet) but from what I've been reading R2BA023 is pretty much the same as R2BA020 with maybe the slightest of differences. If an article I read a while ago is to be believed, we should be getting a few more updates (possibly up to 4 oe 5) for our phones (through Rogers) soon-ish. I'll post the link to that article here if you'd like to see it but it doesn't really tell anything about what is in the updates or when they will be released just when they started to be tested by SE.
I may simply root the X10, and then I won't have to wait for Rogers to publish their ROMs.
I just find it odd, as there wasn't any such problem with 014. The reception at my desk is a bit spotty, but then that's always been the case, so it seems that either the phone is using more power looking for and holding a 3G signal, or it's getting less power over USB.
