Some issues with my X10, could do with some advice please...

I got my X10 about 2 months ago and I've been happy with it up until now as it's developed a couple of issues.

issue1

I've been quite careful with the charging and shutting down apps and I *was* getting around 30 hours battery life.  All of a sudden I'm getting 8 hours if I'm lucky, my usage hasn't changed and I haven't downloaded any more apps. Wifi, bluetooth and GPS are off, the only thing that's changed is there's a little 'waiting for wifi' alert after I asked it to upload  video to youtube only to find the wireless on my router had died...

issue2

I can't download any apps, or updates for any apps. If I go into the market and click on downloads they're sat their saying "waiting for download" and I don't get the downloading app alert...

If anyone can offer any help or advice I'll be eternally grateful as these are driving me nuts!

What do you mean when you say that the wireless on your router had died?  Have you tried resetting your router?  My X10 doesn't always like to connect to my home wifi, with the phone telling me that it's trying to find the IP address, but by pulling the power cord from the wifi and waiting for a few seconds before reinserting it, it usually then connects properly.

My guess (and it is only that) is that your phone is constantly trying to connect to your router in order to upload your stuff to YouTube and to download apps, and that it's that that's causing your battery to drain so quickly now.  Have you looked at the notifications screen (from the home screen, drag the top bar diownwards) to see if the phone is trying to do anything?  If it is trying to connect to something, tap the screen where it tells you that and it should shut off that attempt - and therefore help to preserve the battery juice.

It might also be worth going to Settings - About Phone - Battery use to see what is eating the power.  I found on mine that I had downloaded a game (Labyrinth Lite) and that it hadn't closed properly when I pressed the back button.  I've now deleted the game, and it's much better.

I'm not sure how to close applications properly, but that's probably something for a new thread...

I hope some of this makes sense - and helps! Slightly_smiling_Face

by 'my wireless has died' I mean the wireless capabilities of the Broadcom BCM6348 V0.7 chipset have ceased to function either by a dead capacitor internally or another form of critical fail. I've tried reseting it, I've tried logging on and manually configuring the wireless but it is utterly toast, no signal whatsoever. Thankfully it still pushes 10/100 LAN so my PC is connected.

I'd agree with your guess that my battery drain is caused by it looking for wireless, the thing that confuses me is I've totally disabled the wireless so how can it be chewing battery power?!?

I'm vary careful with what I download, and if you need to shut down an app I'd reccomend 'advanced task killer' it gives you an audit of everything that's running and allows you to terminate any selection at root level.

By far the most annoying of the two problems is being unable to download an app...!

That IS puzzling.  Another wild guess is that the phone is somehow configured so that it tries to access the Android Market only by wifi, so if the wifi is disabled, the phone will still try to connect, but can't because your router isn't functioning properly (and you've disabled the wifi anyway).  Have you tried to connect to it the internet, and specifically the Android market, through someone else's wifi?

Thanks for the recommendation for Advanced Task Killer.  I'll give that a try...

I've never even used this phone with wifi, the few apps I've downloaded so far have been via 3G...

Is there anything in the link below which might help?  If not, that forum might still be a helpful place to ask your question.  I'd be interested to know if you manage to sort out the problem and how - and it might help anyone else experiencing the same problem.
