I have to say that I am not impressed AT ALL with Sony. Before I say any more, please understand that I am not the sort of person to moan about products unless there is a genuine issue. I signed up just to post this comment.
I recently, less than a week ago, purchased outright through FIDO in Ontario a brand new Xperia SP. I work for a company that used to supply corporate cell phones, and now have switched to a system where we have to supply our own phone. GREAT! The old phone was a crappy LG slide POS. SO,,,,,, After much research I bought the Xperia SP.
Now, the SP was to be used solely for work. My personal cell is a Z10 ( company won't support BB, otherwise I wouldn't be here now typing this ). I travel all over Ontario and probably 80% of my time is spent on the phone whilst driving. I have a quality BT handsfree setup - Jabra Freeway.
THE ONE THING I NEEDED TO WORK CORRECTLY WAS THE BLUETOOTH CALLING !
I have all volume settings MAXED OUT on the phone and the Jabra, but still can hardly hear the caller through the speaker. ALL OTHER SOUNDS are amazingly loud at max volume - the Jabra has fantastic sound. BUT THE IN CALL VOLUME i.e. the callers spoken words, is WAY TOO QUIET. The phone is unusable for what I need it to do. Especially as Ontario has introduced fines for not using handsfree.
Incidentally, my Z10 and my old HTC Legend both work perfectly, the sound level of the callers is fine.
I call Sony, explain my problem. At first they say they have never heard of the issue. After explaining that the net is full of users with the same issue, they say that there is in fact a software issue with the Xperia SP!! They admitted it. So, I ask what are they going to do. I get told to reinstall the phones software through the PC Companion to update everything. I told them that probably wont help as the software is reporting that the phone is up to date. They asked for my phone details and were able to tell me that the phone was actually built on the 11th Sept 2013. So, I go through the whole process to please them, wipe all my contacts etc, clean slate. STILL THE SAME ISSUE after reboot.
The phone is great, I like it. But the Bluetooth has a MAJOR FLAW! It renders the phone unusable on the road. This phone is not fit for the purpose it is being sold for. I am convinced Sony is aware of the issue, and why they can't fix it via an update is beyond me. SONY have been absolutely NO HELP. I am pissed.
I will be calling my carrier first thing Monday morning to get them to take it back. And I will probably have to drop more cash to get another phone. Thank the stars I don't have a contract!
Oh and to add insult to injury. My SONY KDL55BX520 55" Flat Screen TV bit the dust TODAY as well !!!!! And guess what, the 1 yr manufactures warranty from SONY ran out less than three weeks ago!! $1,300 for a TV that lasted hardly more than a year.
SONY, your quality has gone right down hill. My parents had TV's that lasted 20 + years!!!!
Questions????? Does anyone at SONY care about its customers? Is Sony going to release a fix for the Xperia SP Bluetooth in call volume levels? And, being as I am being royally shafted by SONY products as we speak, can I get a deal on a replacement Power Supply for my 12 month old Bravia???? I'll even fit it myself!!!
HELP!!
UPDATE.
SO......FIDO will not exchange the phone because I had used it for more than 30 mins - I was using it during work, in the office and in the car. As soon as I felt there was an issue with the in-call bluetooth sound levels, I had already passed the 30 Mins time limit!! COME ON GUYS!!! How are you supposed to evaluate something as complex as a modern smart phone in 30 Mins of use? Really. Think about that for a minute. Any faults found in 30 Mins of use??? Really???
Bottom line here, I offered to purchase a second phone outright, when that arrived at my address, I would transfer my contacts, wipe the Xperia and send it back. ( It is completely UNMARKED and in pristine condition. I have had it less than two weeks ). They could then refund the purchase price of the Xperia. Nope they won't do that. I exceeded the 30m Mins so that's that. $350.00 down the drain!
Thanks SONY & FIDO, thanks for your customer care, thanks for keeping the needs of your paying public close to heart. Thanks for making a cell phone in 2013 that can't actually make calls properly over Bluetooth - yes it can tell you what the weather is like on MARS, probably in several languages, but that counts for nought. CALL QUALITY IS PARAMOUNT SONY!!!! It's a PHONE!!! FIDO. Thanks, for taking my hard earned money and then giving ZERO customer service in return. I will never be spending money with SONY or FIDO again. And trust me, that's your biggest mistake - not that you care.
BTW, I have a new power supply board coming for my 374 day old Bravia. ( You know, the one from above that died just after a year, a few days out of warranty ) Could you send a SONY technician around to fit it for me? No? Thought not.
Last Chance?
HELP PLEASE???
Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish.

A lot of customers have been this angry about this issue... I definitely was one of them. Try update to Android 4.3 such as software version 12.1.A.1.201 that recently came out. It appears that Bluetooth volume works much better now.
Also suffering this issue. Really frustrating as I really like the phone, my first smart phone after using basic Nokia's for 10years. Really disappointed it makes calling so frustrating/impossible if there is the slightest background noise.
Great phone, just not great at phone calls.....
I have been experiencing the poor call audio sound from my c5303 for a long time. Currently using 12.1.A.1.207 android 4.3.
I have played around with the in-call audio equalizer, with and without earphones and still all the calls sound faint.
There should be an option to amplify the voice from the calls.
I hope somebody from sony mobile team can acheieve this otherwise I wouldn't buy their phones again.
Well I have a solution, you can root your phone and buy app called fauxaudio. This app requires a custom kernel which supports fauxaudio. "Doomlord's kernel" and " Williams kernel" are the two that supports fauxaudio. Go to XDA and get directions. I am using it and it works fine for me.
