X10 low volume! Can an will it be fixed?

Hi SE, you should allready know me from your Facebook group or maybe not because you keep ignoring my questions and threads.

So as a start is chose this simple question for you to answer.

The Xperia X10 isn't loud enough. In a pocket I cannot hear it ringing when outside the house or in a shopping mall. Calling someone outside the house is always an andventure because it is hard to understand what my partner is saying. I'm a little bit scared what happens in fall, imagine the wind blows and you are outside waiting for an important call. First you don't hear the X10 ringing and then you have to ask the whole time "what did you say? Sorry I couldn't understand you." Imagine you are talking to your new boss on the phone and all you do ist screaming "Sorry? What was that?" looking forward to that.

And no, it's not only on my device, there are several reviews on the internet that say the same. One testet the volume an the X10 was always about 10 dB under the average volume. Also my ears are good. Btw this is my first phone where I'm complaining about the volume so don't tell me I am the problem.

Oh Se before you STRG+C STRG+V me one of your standard answers, go outside of your audio testing chamber for example in a crowded pub oder a shopping mall and call someone. Then do the same with the Motorola Droid for example and if you still want to tell me "The X10 is OK!" I will go out and buy a hearing aid. Will you pay it for me?

So here the simple question:

Will there be an update that fixes the low volume?

Actually, the phone is capable of louder volume levels.  Here's how you can test it:

On the key lock screen, press "menu > back > back > menu >  back > menu > menu > back" and do the volume service tests (Courtesy of XDA Developers forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=671367 )

I was surprised myself how loud this phone can get.  Hope dies last...

hm, i went to that option... menu-back-back... etc... And all you get is the test options to hear low and high sounds, no adjusting or such!?!? So, the quality< remains same, porr porrr with distorsions. I wonder what you meant by your thread... Doesnt help really only shows a demo of poor sound in general. I wodner what SE meant by having this option in the phone huh,.,,

The only sound that people dont complain about is the microphone for speech, that is very perfect and loud on the other side when comunicating.

When is this software update scheduled for release? Its been 2 months + 1 week since this post and I still cannot hear people when they call me. My phone says there are no updates available.

I am very annoyed since I bought this product to act as my cell phone, and it doesnt seem to do that nearly as well as my previous Samsung product. Also the alarm is a joke, I have not heard it go off yet.

You know what? Even after the update the volume is still to low. You still cannot use your X10 as a mobile phone. Nice eh? 550€ for a phone u cannot use outside.

I really believe the X10 isn't capable of louder volume than now, so save additional 550€ and buy some other phone with wich it is possible to make calls *g*

I have to do the same, because o2 won't give me my money back after 3 month. So hey SE plz test your next phones BEFORE selling them, people don't like to flush their hard earned money down the toilet.

Ya one of the worst cell phones in my experience in 10 years in terms of "in-call" quality. People in India, if you have warranty, go to service center, and give it for ear piece replacement. I have done it. See I am a big sony fan, but very disappointed with the Sony Ericsson cell phone. X10 is my first SE phone and i believe its the last. 10 days have passed but I have not heard any thing from SE service. I hope that they will solve the problem. Let us hope for the best. High battery consumption is ok, large screen, powerful proccessor etc. but phone cant have such a low in call volume.

I hope this may help. I too could not hear my x10 mini ringing in my pocket. I had it beside on the couch one day screen face up and it rang and i still missed the call. At this point i decided to have a look myself at the problem. On the back cover of the x10 mini there is a small slit under the camera lens where the sound comes out. This is so small it gets blocked very easily and the sound cannot be heard. I took off the back cover and had a look at the speaker. It looks big enough BUT, it is surrounded by a "wall" of foam that creates a seal with the back cover and this channels all the sound through the small slit. I removed the foam with my nail and now the sound, ringtones etc. are no longer being channelled through the slit in the cover but are echoing around the phone and are much louder. I have not missed a call I did not want to since.......I know this foam is there to protect from dust but hey needs must.
