I just bought my brand new XZ2 less than 8 hours ago. It's fully charged, but the battery status says that 3 hours and 50 minutes of battery remaining, despite mobile data, GPS, and Bluetooth being off. In fact, I've not even removed the screen stickers yet! The phone idle, screen, and mobile network standby are all at 1-2%. I've done a lot of research plus consulted friends who have Xperia phones and it can last at least 6 hours to a full day on end. Is this normal, or is it something I should be concerned about?

No, it's nothing to be concerned about. The remaining battery life is estimated by the prior use of the phone. Since the phone is brand new there is no data available.
So the lifetime is based on what has been done with the phone from the moment it has been switched on for the first time. What happens in the time after switching on the phone:
The screen is on, updates are being loaded, apps being installed aso., meaning screen and CPU are working permanently. This behaviour is being extrapolated to the remaining battery life.
Just use your phone for a few days and charging cycles and you will see that the battery life prediction adapts to your typical usage. Mine now predicts 1day 23hours when it's fully charged, in the beginning it was much less.

Hi I had that problem to, for me I was a setting that keeps both WiFi and 4g active at the same time, I disable that on developer options.
