Is it safe to use my sony xperia sola USB cable for my new Xperia Z1 Compact ?

Yes,you can use that for transferring data,but if you want to charge using the same adapter as your old sola's,it will charge a lot slower.

I wouldnt use the sola usb cable with the charging adapter. 

but I might use it to charge the Z1 compact via my computer USB port. 

I had to ask because I read on some blogs that using USB cables of a different phone even if it fits

might damage the battary life.

No,if it is micro usb and it is also sony,I do not think you will experience any problems.But your Z1 did not come with USB cable?

It came with only one cable which i use for charging adapter. but I want to use the sola cable 

to charge my phone from my laptop usb port while im at work.

So can we say any sony mobile micro usb cable is ok to use with other sony phones ? for data transfer and charging 

via usb ports ?

It is always recommended to use the accesories that came with the phone,but overall yes,you can use any usb cables from sony(even from older devices).
