I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Hi all,
I have send a support request to Sony as I am hearing static noise when I am watching TV. Also when I am using the home menu I can hear some clunky noises after the menu makes a sound.
I was hoping that the firmware update from yesterday solved this...
regards,
Ivo
@corpsmaster, I remember having a similar issue a few days ago, turned the TV on and could vaguely hear some static noise. I cant remember which setting I turned off in the audio, but it was one of them in there im sure.... soon as i switched it to off the static on channels stopped. I have a funny feeling it was clear audio, but I'm not %100
I dont get the menu noise though! But I do get a very loud *CHICK* sound when I have the surrond on and I pause Sky, and press play again! Thats when I get a noise for a second. Agian with surrond on, I may get a *CHICK* sound in the menu screen when the TV has a sketchy moment.
15th July!
C'mon.... TV hasn't been out that long! Why not since launch?

It's an issue between Sony and Netflix - Netflix have a newer app out that supports 5.1 Surround Sound on Android TV 5.1.1 (thats going to get confusing) - Sony either have to update the TV to using Android 5.1.1 or ask Netflix to allow the app to install on the older Android 5.0.2 that we're currently running
Going on my own experince of Android 5 there were quite a lot of bug fixes that were fixed in each update - we really should be pushing Sony to move to the newer version
As it stands because Netflix is a system app and we don't have root there's no way we can remedy this ourselves
If they say that then I'm guessing its true - I don't know enough about the Android sound system to be able to figure it out - we do have 5.1 on the Video App and Digital and Satelite channels - at least until the sync issues start happening - my receiver starts switching between Dobly Digital and doing its Pro Logic emulation - nothing else (not even my PS3 via HDMI) seems to have 5.1 functionality
