Attention VGN-CS11 users and SONY!! Problem with FAN!

Hi everyone!

If you have recently bought a new VGN-CS11 series notebook, I'd ask that you take a moment to read this post.

Since I unboxed the new notebook, I have been experiencing strange noises from the fan unit evey time it operates. Before, it used to be simply that every time the fan stopped working, it made a soft "growl" noise (probably due to some internal vibration) for a mere second or two. Recently, however, it has also begun to make a strange, barely audible "clicking sound" as the fan starts up and operates, accompanied by the "growl" at the end, like before. At first, I was led to believe that it was just the normal operating noise that the fan made (although quite annoying!), but due to these recent developments, I am more and more convinced that this is some problem or malfunction that perhaps, will only get worse with time.

Other CS11 users have already posted in the thread "Problem with fan!!" that they also experience this problem, and, from what I've been able to gather, it does not seem like an isolated problem... but this is what we need to confirm.

That is the purpose of this thread.

I would like to ask and encourage all CS11 users to post in this thread if they also experience the same "problem" with the fan (abnormal noises that are clearly distinguishable from normal operation) or anything fan-related, especially if you have experienced them since you bought the notebook and haven't done anything that could "provoke" them (like dropping the notebook or hitting it in some way, blocking the ventilation vents, etc...). This is to have a general scope that this is not an isolated problem that is only happening to a few, and that way, perhaps Sony will take an interest and take the necessary measures to correct this problem if this, in fact, turns out to be a generalised problem.

I have already created a new case with e-Support regarding this issue. Note that these are brand new laptops that have been out on sale for barely a month, and now would be a good time to correct any problems that may arise. If this turns out to be a common problem for most CS11 users, then we should all contact Vaio-Link or e-Support and report the problem, so that Sony will take this problem into consideration if enough people have it.

Also, perhaps it would also be of interest that those CS11 users that DON'T experience this problem also post in this thread, to see how many DO and how many DON'T... it may be interesting to also know.

yes they definately provide the packaging, well they have with me twice anyway!
further updates from sony, basically they have said the engineer says its ok so thats the end of the story as far as they are concerned even though my laptop still makes the whistling and grinding noise when the fan has stopped!
i then asked them if it is supposed to make that noise and they said no so we are now at stalemate.
so basically i have a brand new sony cs11 that cost £800 that is now sitting doing nothing as it is too irritating to use. thanks sony!
does anyone else have any ideas on what to do as they just arent listening?

Hi all,on monday (2nd of march) my CS will be taken by Sony for assitance,i hope it will return fixed.I just wanted to ask:i did the back up of my files,but i think they will do not touch the content of the pc...did they erase yours? i hope not.and if I have it retired on monday will it return on friday?

they did wipe the files on my laptop yes, all i have done with my laptop so far is
1.load it up with my pictures and music.
2.get annoyed with the noisy fan.
3.send it off to sony and they wipe it and send it back.
repeat process twice and will do so a 3rd time when they pick it up tomorrow im sure!!

today the pick up man came...he packaged the pc so bad that i stopped the sending..i'm so disappointed..now i have to do again the sony procedure,waiting for the package and so on..it's not sony fault..it's the carrier's fault...but what's the point in sending my laptop if none has the problem solved.....???by the way what's the 3 leg procedure?

no idea what the 3rd procedure is, im sending it off hoping that they will fix it but i dont hold out any hope as the second time it went they sent it back and said it was ok. the 1st time they changed the fan (for a noisier one), im gradually losing patience with them.
i just want to sit with someone and say "this noise surely cant be correct can it"?
if i was doing work on it or even watching a movie i couldnt do it as it would drive me insane

Hello everyone!

I am writting from Portugal, and i have the same problem with my Vaio VGN-CS11S. This Monday the computer will be sent Sony`s repair center, as I hope the problem to be solved.

I have read this entirely thread, and i am so disapointed with Sony that I won`t buy any product from them anymore. My previous Laptop was a Toshiba, and in a 5 year period working with it, it never gave me any kind of problems.

I am used to have Sony Brand TV`s at my houses, but with this attitude from them, I won`t even buy them anymore.

We are losing because we can`t use our laptops the way we want, but the biggest loser is Sony itself. They will lose customers day after day with this kind of policy.

By the way, is there any new update from customers who have sent their laptops to Sony?

hello..i have one more question..I've sent my vaio on thursday (5th march) and i am already fed up of being without it..do sony respect the 5 working days?you who have sent it,how long did you wait to have your vaio back?do you think my vaio will be back on friday 13th?

I'm specially interested in the feedback you can provide from your experience with Sony's repair center, since I got the same laptop, same problem and live in the same country, so I would appreciate if you posted back as soon as you got your laptop fixed/not fixed.

they are pretty good with getting the laptop back but if its anything like mine it came back worse than when it went! i am waiting to send mine off for a third time but i actually need to use it at the moment so will send it in the next few days and keep you posted
