Here's a new one, bluetooth and noise canceling are working perfectly, but when I plug in the aux cable, there's a soft constant noise/hissing, independently from the audio source - I also hear the same noise when the cable is only plugged into the headphones and the other end is loose.
These are brand new and I only used them maybe once with the cable, and I don't remember them doing this then. I might have updated them after using the cable but I can't be sure. Tried a factory reset but nothing changed (also the firmware doesn't get rolled back)

Hi FrankieSomeone ,
If you turn the headphones off ( noise cancellation off ) when they are connected via cable, does the same thing happen?
Cheers.
Rose
Hi Frankie,
Welcome to the Sony Community.
Can you let me know what kind of device you are using?
Best wishes,
Sean
Hi,
this happens regardless of what device I'm connecting the headphones to; I can hear the same noise even if the other end of the cable isn't plugged into a device.
Hi FrankieSomeone,
That's so unusual. Have you tried a different cable?
Cheers,
Rose
Yep I tried another cable and the wooshing is still there. It's like a soft static noise.
Meanwhile, audio via bluetooth is crystal clear.
Hi FrankieSomeone ,
Have you tried resetting the headphones to factory settings as explained here: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/whch700n/v1/en/contents/TP0001613432.html
Cheers,
Rose
Yup I tried but it didn't help. Today I also tried using them cabled away from my house in case it was interference from power lines or some such, but it wasn't that.
Oh my god, that's what it was! For some reason I was totally convinced that the headphones needed to be turned on to work via cable.
Yeah with the headphones powered off there's no noise. Thank you!
Hi FrankieSomeone ,
Glad it's working now!
Cheers.
